while at the same time also reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Probably my favourite HP book.

Still working through Henner's Death's Merchant. This is like wine or a single malt. Has to be savoured in small sips. A big gulp would floor you senseless. A week's worth of reading only got me to 24%, but from what I see, the comparisons to Malazan are well warranted. Will post full review once I finish this. Loving it till now.

Perhaps I'll park Vicious for a bit and pick up Orconomics to take a light breather after this saga.

Eagerly waiting for it...
Kallor shrugged. 'I've walked this land when the T'lan Imass were but children. I've commanded armies a hundred thousand strong. I've spread the fire of my wrath across entire continents, and sat alone upon tall thrones. Do you grasp the meaning of this?'

'Yes' said Caladan Brood. 'You never learn'

Finished Turning Darkness Into Light by Marie Brennan and it is super good.
Is that her new series?
Did you read the Lady Trent books, how do they compare?

New series and I haven't read Lady Trent to compare.

I don't think it'll be for everyone as from conventional storytelling standards it's slow with characters lacking agency, but it is just told in a fascinating way and therefore idgaf. This might be my book of the year.

Currently reading Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson, mainly because Ray Bradbury identified it as an important influence on his own work.

And reading The Barbary Corsairs by Stanley Lane-Poole, a very old history but one with plenty of colorful anecdotes. Good fodder for the historical fantasy writer.

Started Elantris but gave up on it. Characters didn't engage me, the plot felt like a re-tread, and I was not enchanted with the world. If I'm not hooked by the quarter-mile mark, why keep trying?

Despite being a Sanderson fanboy, I've tried to start Elantris several long months ago and kind of dropped it off after the first chapter too, hahah. I'd probably get back to it someday, though I'd say it's certainly his debut novel, it's not half as strong as his other books.

Started The House of Sacrifice by Anna Smith Spark. As brilliantly written as I'd hoped, but the style of the writing does make it a little hard to picture what's going on.
