finished One Word Kill. Very different to Marks usual style and not as descriptive as it's a real world setting.
Good though and I will review as time allows.

Finished Bring Up the Bodies, meeting my lit-fic requirement for the year. ;)

I'm moving to Black Wolves by Kate Elliott, which is a long old book and will probably take me a while.

Recently, I finished the following books.

Storm Glass by Jeff Wheeler. This was an enjoyable book, though it was definitely geared toward a younger audience than I expected going in. Good enough that I am looking to read the rest of the series at some point.

Dragon Storm and Dragon Rider by D.K. Holmberg. Now I have only one book left in the series. It's been a lot of fun. It won't win any literary awards, but Holmberg always provides the kind of comfort reads I enjoy. My only real issue is that I think he could sometimes use one more proofread before publishing.

City of Light by Will Wight. I really enjoyed this entire trilogy. I think fans of Sanderson will find a lot to like in Wight's incredibly creative magic system and action-packed plots.

I just borrowed Holy Sister from the library, but I'm only a third of the way through the 800-page Black Wolves, which I'm really enjoying. Argh.

I've had that problem in the past, hehe
And I bet that you won't be able to renew Holy Sister, there will be a queue...
Just read faster ;D

I'm still on Tiger and the wolf, I haven't been reading that much in the last few days :-\

Reading King of Assassins by RJ Barker and its really good. It feels like it concerns weighty matters and big emotions without feeling oppressive or depressive.

Really really good.

I finished Thef of Swords (the first Riyria book), and it went from a 3 star to 4.5 stars real quick. Amazing, I knew the book had potential from the start, despite many of the chapters/ dialogues being kind of watery (I admit to having skipped over half of the book, especially chapters not from Royce's and Hadrian's POV). It's got a pretty classical fantasy feel, but also comes with cool subversions and twists of that plot. Royce and Hadrian are an extremely enjoyable pair and I totally loved the adventures they went through together. Definitely looking forward to the next book!

Inky, Riyria books are great :D
I'm just annoyed that of the second trilogy series (I just found out about book 4), only the first 2 are published in the UK.

I'm reading my first fantasy book in almost a month :o

Having heard so much about it here over the years, I finally caved and bought Rivers of London. On a par with the early Harry Dresden so far, hopefully it stays that good.

Though I was shocked when Lady Ty appeared!

Someone called?
Delighted you have started one of best urban fantasies ever, Alex, not always set in London either. @Rostum is another addict.
I adored the character and location of Lady Ty from the beginning, but realised later may have been guilty of "cultural appropriation". Whatever. Too late to change and she gets even better as the series progresses. There is a long general thread here with some links to other blogs etc about Rivers and Ben.

If you go to Page 3 there is a link and good illustrations of the characters.

Have fun and enjoy.

I've finished Adrian Tchaikovski's The tiger and the wolf, and I really enjoyed it.

The premise, of having a 'spirit animal' that you can Step into (transform) is super interesting, and worked in a way in the plot that not only makes perfect sense, but also eliminates the obvious niggles we could have with such an option.
I think Hesprec was my favourite character!

Spoiler for Hiden:
And I loved the idea of having 2 competing souls inside you, each showing different traits, but instead of choosing one over the other, she got a hybrid of of the two, bigger than either. It's a good metaphor for when we have to make decisions about ourselves, I think :)

I've now started book 2 of the trilogy, The bear and the serpent.
