I'll probably take a breather before the next omnibus to read Thrawn: Alliances though.

Read this recently and it was pretty good. Thrawn continues to be my favorite SW character.

I finished another series by V. E. Shwab. Similarly to her previous series, the first book is great (4 stars), but with the second book the source materials seemed to have run out and she just kept referencing the first book without any new development. To anyone interested, I'd recommend reading only the first book in any of her series.

I recently finished Death March by Phil Tucker. It's LitRPG, but I'll still count it as fantasy.
I hadn't really thought of that, but I guess straight-up LitRPG is technically SF.

I finished Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky. 5/5

Spectacular. This was one hell of a good surprise, definitely in my top 10 2018. Better yet, despite being a clear standalone, a new book in the setting will be released, but only in May of next year. The agony of wait!

I picked up The Drowning Girl by CaitlĂn R. Kiernan because a lot of people over here recommended it to me.

It's about a schizophrenic artist (writer?) that sees ghosts/apparitions who might just be her imagination or really the characters of her story. Or the other way around.

Let's see.

I finished Grey Sister by Mark Lawrence this morning. Really enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to part 3.

Next is Dreaming in Smoke by Tricia Sullivan, my 1998 book for my chronological SF challenge (only one left after this one). I don't really know anything about it. I think it won the Clarke award.

After finishing Tyrant's Throne (Sebastien de Castell), see comments on separate thread, I started William Horwood's The Stonor eagles that I'd found in a charity shop a couple of months ago.
I had to abandon it, it was very different to his other books that I really liked, and I just couldn't connect with anything: plot, characters, writing...

Now I started John Gwynne's A time of dread, book 1 in his new series.

I've started my long journey through Dan Abnett's Gaunt's Ghosts in preparation for next year's release of The Anarch. If the size of these omnibus editions is anything to go by, I'm in for the long haul.  :D

Brilliant series.  Think Sharpe in space!

I've still got the latest - The Warmaster, to read.

Sharpe in Space? That sounds ace.

Napoloeon the Great by Andrew Roberts.  A bit far fetched at times, not convinced one man who is not even French could become first consul of France by the age of 30.  And he's a bit too lucky in battle.  However he is a very good tactician.  Intrigued to see how this pans out.  I can see him meeting his Waterloo at some point.

I'm on the verge of finishing book 8 (well, book 2 since I'm reading Omnibus editions) and it really is good. There are a fair few things about the 40k universe I don't like, but Abnett really captures the chaos of battle well.

I'm glad there are others who like it.  :D  Have you read any of his other books? Dogs of War in particular has similar themes, though is set in the much nearer future.

Read this recently and it was pretty good. Thrawn continues to be my favorite SW character.

I enjoyed it too. Not quite as good as the first book, and I hope there's another coming to wrap things up. Thrawn is easily on of my favourite parts of the EU and the new canon.
