Started reading The Blade Itself last night. It the first time I read something from Joe Abercrombie, so I'm excited, after all I've read about him.

After an awful lot of faffing about and being unable to stick to the one book, I seem to have finally settled on The Way of Kings - so far I'm loving the magic and the worldbuilding. Lovely stuff!

Managed to snag To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis, either free or for $.99 recently. I remembered a good friend recommended it as funny SFF. I'm enjoying it tremendously so far. It's almost slapstick time travel humor

It was too much of that for me. I much prefer everything else she has written, especially "Passage".

Currently reading The Written (Emaneska 1) by Ben Galley.

For a self published young author I am very impressed. I'm about half way through and can already see myself picking up book two in the series

Also reading Hobb's The Inheritance on the side :)

Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence. Following it with King & then Emperor, at this point I've no idea how the series is gonna turn out.

Beyond the Rift by Peter Watts, a collection of SF short stories.  Pretty good so far, punchy and thought-provoking.

I'm dazed from finishing Midnight Tides.
Nothing else reading at the moment. I may need a few days of rest...

Just finished Cyteen (C J Cherryh).  I found it really tough going for the first 150 pages, but when the story finally kicked in, it was one of the deepest and most intense things I've read in years.

I finished The Corpe Rat King by Lee Battersby - love the way Battersby writes in terms of his macabre details/descriptions. I also enjoyed the characters acerbic quips, but somehow didn't connect with the overall story or protagonist. I also listened to The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black - first audiobook where I have noticed mood music. Very strange and distracting from an otherwise good book. Was a darker book than I anticipated (a good thing for me).

Moving on to Moon's Artifice by Tom Lloyd. Only a chapter in, but really (really) enjoy reading it so far.

Yesterday I read Parable of the Talents, by Octavia Butler. It was the sequel to my favorite sci-fi book ever, and it was good, but... not Parable of the Sower. It gave me a big sad that she'll never write another book, though.

Today I started Catherynne M. Valente's The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making, and it's delightful. Like Terry Pratchett meets literary surrealism.

I'm now on Burn, by Julianna Baggott, the last of her trilogy.
I admit having picked up the first book based on the cover (a pristine shiny white, book called Pure), and I loved it, quite a disturbing story - think powerful bombs going off and at that moment people being fused to whatever was near: dolls, birds, brother, children... This is the story of after.

we love her Fairyland books!  Especially the first one, the language and sentences, and ideas, and just about everything!

I'm in such a reading slump at the moment, I can't focus on anything longer than a few pages (or a magazine article).  But I did manage to re-read Captain Vorpatril's Alliance over the weekend, which is the first book I've finished in ages!
i'm also reading What Makes This Book So Good, which is a collection of blog posts by Jo Walton, which is fine for my lack of concentrating
