About to finish Powder Mage #3. Don't know what to start next.
Kallor shrugged. 'I've walked this land when the T'lan Imass were but children. I've commanded armies a hundred thousand strong. I've spread the fire of my wrath across entire continents, and sat alone upon tall thrones. Do you grasp the meaning of this?'

'Yes' said Caladan Brood. 'You never learn'

Strange, I thought this would be up your alley.
You're really going through a slump :-\

The premise did sound really good but tonally, it just didn't work for me. The narrative voice was trying too hard to convey this was a tough grizzled man in a tough grizzled world with the result it felt like over the top acting, because if he's really that grizzled and the world is that tough, then he should be a lot number and matter of fact about it. I'll probably keep going but I can smell a futile endeavour here.

And yes, this is becoming one hell of a slump. Maybe I should just accept my fate and give up reading...

Turning Darkness Into Light was brilliant. Completely unlike anything else I've read, even the Lady Trent series. No action to speak of, and I saw one of the developments coming from early on, but absolutely brilliant nonetheless. Definitely recommended.

Now onto Dale Lucas' Good Company as I continue trying to finish off some series.

Finished The Killing Light the third part of Myke Coles armoured Saint trilogy. It was very stylized and a little strange but an enjoyable read nonetheless.

I've finally started reading Elizabeth Moon'sThe deed of Paksenarrion (omnibus of the trilogy) that @Peat gave me some years ago when we first met!
It's much bigger (1000+ pages) than I remembered when I decided to go ahead, but it's reading much quicker than Malazans hehe

I've just finished book 1, Sheepfarmer's daughter, and it was nice - not great, but worth a read. I guess I kept waiting for something to happen, for a more overarching plot to the whole training/campaign/marching around story, and that was really only hinted at towards the end.

I think I'll take a break from the trilogy for now, and read something completely different, Sanderson's Skyward. It seems to be SF, so not sure if I'll like it, but since I got it from 50p it's no harm done if I don't, hehe

Started Among Thieves by Douglas Hulick last night (somehow I've never read it). It's fairly pedestrian with its plot and writing, but the story and characters feel so familiar. It's got me kinda hooked. Hope to finish it sometime this weekend.
