I'm a quarter of the way into RJ Barker's Blood Of Assassins , and it's holding up the quality of the first book. I should say though, the character names have convinced me that everyone in the book should have a Welsh accent.

What am I currently reading:

In the Ruins by Kate Elliott.

Fireborn by David Dalglish.

Blackwing by Ed McDonald

Faithless by Graham Austin-King

Senlin Ascends by Josiah Bancroft

Morning Star by Pierce Brown

The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter

Benjamin Ashwood by A.C. Cobble

That's only eight books. I don't have a problem at all.

Lucky you! In the mean time I was reading Last day of a condemned man or Le Horlas. Which is the closest to sff school ever gave us to read.
That was about the only thing like that we got. I was jealous of a friend who was assigned Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.
I will expand your TBR pile.

Finished the Art of War anthology. Some real gems in there as well as a few that were only so-so, but well worth a read.

Sufficiently Advanced Magic by Andrew Rowe was an interesting read. Definitely a lot of LitRPG genre fun but I would have liked more depth to the characters.

Now I am onto Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone. So far I am loving it.

Finished Under heaven which was a delightful read and an unexpected gift making it even better.

Started Altered Carbon for the 5th or 6th time having replaced my mauled copy at the end of last year.

I'm not sure Qualityland by Marc-Uwe Kling will ever be translated to English but if it will be, get it!

It's a dystopian novel, mixing Orwell and Huxley with lots and lots of snarky humor and reality satire. It extrapolates from now into a world (not far into the future) where Facebook (renamed: Everybody) and Co and their algorithms rule the world (story takes place in Berlin - renamed to QualityCity).

Here, something like Amazon (TheShop) knows you better than you know yourself and sends you everything you want before you know you want it. QualityPartner takes care of your love life and suggests you a new partner if you level up. (RateMe analyses health, sex appeal, your job, sport, intelligence, activity in social networks and over a hundred more factors and you get a specific level in every category, resulting in one general level. So now you can optimize yourself constantly to get even better jobs, friends, partners, health care.)

Your father's job is your last name if you are a boy and your mother's job if you are a girl.
The main character is Peter Jobless and when his girlfriend Sandra Admin gets promoted and has access to a better partner, he starts dating Melissa Sexworker.

There are three parties, named Party of Progress, Alliance of Quality and Party of the Opposition. There is an election campaign ongoing and the Party of Progress nominated for the first time ever John of Us, an android, as their candidate.

The book exists with two covers (black and white) and the content is different in only a few crucial places, one leading to a happy end while the other one doesn't.

^ that sounds very interesting, but it would depress me enormously, so I try to stay away from dystopian books, especially the kind that seems oh-so-very-likely :-\

It IS scary from time to time, no kidding. But it's nevertheless very entertaining.

Perdido Street Station and the two books set in the same world, The Scar, and Iron Council (kinda independent sequels) are all amazing. I was almost put off by how over the top the whole thing is, which is usually something I back away from slowly, but Miéville just makes it work. He manages to make this absurd world believable, which is an amazing feat. I can recommend all three books!

Finished Midwich Cuckoos. It was ok. The least impressive of his books, I'd say. Smart but not that well handled. Lots of sitting around having rambling conversation on the kids, not nearly enough of the kids themselves. The final reveal I sort of saw coming, yet still found quite abrupt.

Now starting The Ninth Rain.

Finished The Liar's Key (Red Queen Wars #2), and have to say that I didn't really like this one as much as the first book.
Spoiler for Hiden:
The death of a certain character and treacherous turn of another left me feeling a bit disappointed.  :-\
Started the third book, The Wheel of Osheim, anyway.
