Hmm...didn't know Tchaikosvky wrote grimdark. Of course, I've only read his first Shadows of the Apt book. Maybe they get darker from there.

Very interested to see initial reviews.

Tchaikovsky is such a versatile writer. I've read so many different kinds of story from him - Science Fiction, Epic Fantasy, Urban Fantasy… doesn't surprise me one bit that he is giving Grimdark a go :) :) :)

Can't wait to see the second issue of the magazine. I have a review in there of Karen Miller's The Falcone Throne, and it's an absolute honour to be placed next to R Scott Bakker, Richard K Morgan and Kameron Hurley.

I hope you all enjoy the issue! :)

They also have Sanderson on their list of Grimdark writers, so take this how you want.

I think they have a very liberal definition of Grimdark. In addition to Sanderson, I wouldn't characterize Scott Lynch, Brent Weeks, or Patrick Rothfuss as Grimdark. Sure, they all have some grit and darkness in them, but I wouldn't put them with Abercrombie, Martin, Erikson, or Bakker.

With Sanderson, I suppose Mistborn is set in a "crapsack world," which is often one of the hallmarks of Grimdark.

Grimdark #3 is available, including the conclusion to Bakker's Atrocity Tale The Knife of Many Hands and a brand new interview.

There's also a bulk price for the first three issues.

Ya Elantris and Mistborn both have a grimdark ish environment. So does the Infinity Blade novellas, to a degree, But I wouldn't call him a grimdark writer, nor any of those others mentioned.

Does anyone know how/if you can get this without it being an e-book download? Cause I'm a total Luddite who'd ideally communicate via talking raven.....

Most unfortunately, Grimdark Magazine is an entirely online publication, at the moment (I have no idea if they intend to distribute print in the future).
