Murderbot series: who’s a fan
« on: February 12, 2020, 05:59:44 PM »
I’ve read the first book last year and loved it. Need to read the rest  It’s a pity there are so short through.

I’m going to try her other books too.

I loved the first book but I'm reluctant to pay $12 for the sequels, seeing as they're not even full novels -- which I can get for that price. They're on my wishlist, and I'll buy them either when they go on discount or when I make more money.

Absolutely fantastic series!

Ever hear of a Torrent? Advantage of reading electronically...

I pay for my books because I want the authors to get paid.

That's an eminently reasonable and decent stance. You did however state your unwillingness to pay for those books though, so the author isn't get your money as it is :)

I usually try to buy in Kindle...but my reading appetite far outweighs my finances. Small/Indie authors, I always buy. Last book I downloaded was Kushiel Dart which I was curious but not enough to pay. Some old books like WoT, Black Company etc I'll download.

You can borrow electronically from most libraries these days, y'know. You get to read the book for free, and the author still gets paid.

Back to the point: I loved the first Murderbot. Thanks for the reminder to put the rest on my book wishlist.

I said I was reluctant under the current circumstances, not unwilling. And she isn't getting my money because I'm not reading her books, the purpose being to pay the writers whose books I read.

I think I've seen plans for an omnibus version somewhere.

It looks interesting, but not one I'd rush out and buy. Would definitely give it a look if i cam across it though.

I really love Murderbot. Read the first two. Managed to get them in my shop once but I think my manager chicked out of re-ordering because they're so damn expensive. It's a shame.

They're really expensive, that's for sure. I came across a 4 book set series for around $70. I could order like 7 Discworld novels at that price.

The first four books were made available for free by the publisher not that long ago (although each book was only for a limited time), and I picked them up then. I liked them enough to order the box set of those four (I paid £38.99 from Forbidden Planet, but it's currently the same price on Amazon), and the fifth book. I have the 6th on pre-order.

Yes, the first four are only novellas, and so are expensive for the length of the book, but my perception of a book's worth to me is rather arbitrary at the best of times; I will throw 3 figure amounts at certain books after all, but balk at a £2 paperback if I'm not sure I really want it.

I never thought of a novella as being a different price than a novel.
Like all books are 10ish $ at the book store.
