And yet, there's a love triangle at the heart of Arthurian myth (two, even) and Arthur is arguably part of the heart of all fantasy... :D

Also solid ones in both the Ulster and Leinster cycles, two in the Iliad... the love triangle is arguably the foundation stone of the historical Epic.

Possibly because when you start looking for reasons a hero might face conflicts and need something to counterbalance what duty and honour dictates, the power of love is one of the few games in town with the necessary weight to go against it.

And there’s the love triangle between Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli, which is so sensitively captured in The Secret Diaries. Ah, jealousy. I’ll write more about this later...  8)
