Added them on and put the sub genre of them as well.

Add also The house of shattered wings, Aliette de Bodard. Lots of same-sex couples without makingafuss.

Surprised The Fifth Season hasn't been mentioned yet in here - it includes a polyamorous relationship which involves a gay man, a bisexual man, and a straight woman, plus it has a transgendered character.

Oh, already got it to read next :D

And Eclipse, sorry - I've just realised it's by author's alphabetical order and I'd missed it :-[

No need for a sorry, it's all good I don't know with the house of shattered wings and rivers of London you getting right into UF ;-)

I read Shattered wings last month it was quite good 4/5 from me.

Eclipse, Shattered Wings is *not* UF - not in my definition, anyway ;)

The Doctrine of Labyrinths series by Sarah Monette (Melusine, The Virtu, The Mirador, Corambis) has a gay protagonist and various gay/lesbian/bi minor characters.  High fantasy.

It been a while since I read Joe Abercrombie but there's a thief character called Shev and she's awesome in Sharp Ends (First Law World #7) I was wondering if she appeared in one of his other books

I loved her double act with Javre

I think this thread is more for the list than discussion, but I just read an amazing piece in Robin Hobb's City of dragons, that I wanted to highlight.

It's book 3, and we now have a (male) gay couple living together (let's call it characters A and B, not to give out spoilers). A teenage boy (C) is having some problems with a girl he's interested in.

C: "But she's a girl, girls think about these things. Don't they?"
An incredulous smile spread slowly across A's face. "You came here tonight to ask me for advice about women?" He turned and looked pointedly at B. "Are you sure you came to the right door?"
C looked uncomfortable. "Well, who else can I talk to?" (...) So I came here. You, both of you seem happy. (...) And it can't be that different, can it? People being jealous, people being in love."

And that's it. A then tries to help boy C. Totally normal, totally human, and hardly ever seen in books or tv :)

Yeah that side of things was definitely the strongest part of those books. Glad you're enjoying them!

I'm loving them ;D

I guess my point is that sometimes there's this idea that to have diversity in books, namely sexual diversity, you need to show the characters having sex, when it's completely not about that.
