Rank the Wheel of Time Books
« on: October 09, 2013, 07:03:17 AM »
I recently decided to make a list ordering my least favorite WoT book to my favorite, and I posted this on my website as well as the Dragonmount forum.

I wanted to see where everyone else decided to rank the Wheel of Time books.  If you don't want to rank all of them, then you can put down your favorite and least favorite book from the series.

Here is the short version of my ranking

14. Crossroads of Twilight
13. The Path of Daggers
12. Towers of Midnight
11. A Crown of Swords
10. A Knife of Dreams
9. Winter's Heart
8. The Dragon Reborn
7. The Gathering Storm
6. Lord of Chaos
5. The Eye of the World
4. The Great Hunt
3. A Memory of Light
2. The Shadow Rising
1. The Fires of Heaven

A more detailed reasoning for these rankings are at my site.

1) All the books where Faile isn't imprisoned in the rogue Aiel camp and Perrin doesn't just stand around like a moron.
2) All the books where Faile is imprisoned in the rogue Aiel camp and Perrin does just stand around like a moron.

I tend to immediately mark down any book that Faile is actually in, because she is intensely annoying.
I will expand your TBR pile.

haha. Perrin should have just married Davram, because he's immensely more interesting.

I laughed out loud at this response.  I don't think I dislike Faile as much as you, but I will definitely agree she can get really annoying.

I haven't read them in a while, but I actually remember liking Faile, it's just those 2 or 3 books where she's prisoner at the Aiel camp and it seems like there is no progression in the story at all, other than Perrin complaining about why he can't do anything (even though I seem to recall he has someone with him who can Travel and could have sent for an army at anytime). The whole thing just seemed silly to me.

I just started this series over, I'll have to see what I think this time haha.

Interesting Topic. My order from best to worst

Knife of Dreams - I think this is the perfect WoT book. Some of the best scenes from the entire series.
The Towers of Midnight - Best of the Sanderson books. Great Mat and Perrin scenes. Messaih Rand is also pretty cool.
Lord of Chaos - Dumai Wells, healing of Logain, Mat in Salidar, a lot happens.
The Shadow Rising - This was the book that really expanded the series with the sequences in the waste and Tanchico.
The Gathering Storm - The fall of Rand and the Rise of Egwene.
The Fires of Heaven - Mat and the battle of Cairhien.
The Dragon Reborn - I loved how this whole book was about the Rush to Tear from 4 diff. perspectives(Surgirls, Mat and Tom, Moirraine and Perrin and Rand)
A Memory of Light - A little too rushed but so much awesomeness.
The Eye of the World - Great start to the series, but not as exciting as later installments
The Great Hunt - The Tower parts drag a bit, but overall great
A Crown of Swords - A weakish book redeemed by Mat.
Winters Heart - A weak book redeemed by the Cleansing.
The Path of Daggers - A weak book not redeemed but had a couple of good sequences, e.g. Egwenes declaration of War and Rands war with the Seanchan.
Crossroads of Twilight - A weak book not redeemed.

New Spring would probably be close to the bottom but am not including it here.
