Is is as good as the hype?
« on: June 07, 2014, 06:49:08 PM »
Hi all,

I am just finishing up a re read of The Name of the Wind, am just wandering if anyone has read any of the Faithful and the fallen by John Gwynne and if it is worth the "as good as Game of thrones award contender"..

Have a real itch to read this so any recommendation is greatly recommended...

Thanks

Here's a really, really long review:

TLDR version: not 'as good as Game of Thrones' but perfectly enjoyable in its own right

I am reading the first book "Malice" right now. It's enjoyable I'm about half way done.

Really enjoyed Malice, and not being a huge Martin fan I can't compare the two.

I'd say the  hype is like a lot of hype a little overblown or off center at least. I agree with Porno it's not "as good as" asoiaf but it also doesn't ever try to be asoiaf so it doesn't fail at all by not being. There are some comparisons to be made, mostly in the things never being clear cut and black and white this is both in characters and larger plot points. Porno is also right in the book being a fun read that stands on its own, really a great debut that I would definitely recommend people give a go.
