If you know the first thing about fantasy...

This is an experiment. We're gonna write a fantasy book together. All you have to do is write one sentence. Quote the previous sentence(s) of the scene(s) so far and add one sentence. Together, with our combined fantasy knowledge, IQs, etc, we might write the best fantasy novel the world has ever seen. I'm gonna start. Ready? Be brave. Forget crowd-sourcing. This is crowd-writing.

"He was too old for this."
Things had changed quite a lot since he'd last been in Vertcity*, at the service of the old king's captain.

Those had been milder times; a stark contrast to what was now drawing him back.

But he had changed also.

However reluctant he is, he has been summoned back by the King from his retirement to deal with a dire situation that the empire is now facing.

But he had changed also.

However reluctant he is, he has been summoned back by the King from his retirement to deal with a dire situation that the empire is now facing.

He had his suspicions that the gnomes and their new  gunpowder mixture were behind this  development. He wondered why this short journey Back to the city was taking such a long time he felt like he had aged seven years in this trip like he had been trapped in some kind of mind stasis Brandon thought.

At last the city gates came into view with an old faded welcome to Vertcity sign some joker had graffiti the sign and now it was called fartcity.

Now how was he going to get in the city should he just stroll to the guards at the city gate Or see if that not so secret passageway was still there he couldn’t believe the city officials hadn’t found about it yet as it was Guarded  by the vampir male stripper gang but you know city officials blind to everything apart from money going in to their hands. After  all he didn’t think time was on his side. He needed to decide what to do and fast. Especially if some fucking I wizard was making his mind fuzzy.

Wow, Eclipse covered 7 years of absence :)
Kallor shrugged. 'I've walked this land when the T'lan Imass were but children. I've commanded armies a hundred thousand strong. I've spread the fire of my wrath across entire continents, and sat alone upon tall thrones. Do you grasp the meaning of this?'

'Yes' said Caladan Brood. 'You never learn'
