Saw a good one in a non fantasy/SF that I'm reading at present. Ice Station by Matthew Reilly. It's an action thriller. The main character is a marine called Shane Schofield, who is for his profession on the short side. He meets this young girl and she says to him that she's short for her age, he immediately says back to her 'So am I,'
One of the things that made it amusing for me, is that Matthew Reilly said that when he was writing the book (it came out in 1998) he had Schofield envisaged as Tom Cruise (he did later explain that this was Top Gun Tom Cruise, not jumping on Oprah's couch Tom Cruise) and Tom Cruise is on the short side. It was a nice conversational line, I could see someone using it and it also helped the character to break the ice with the girl he was talking to and establish himself as on okay, easy going type of person, whether or not he actually is.
I will expand your TBR pile.
