My favourite fantasy series are Gormenshast, Malazan, Wheel of Time and First Law.

There are so so many more I haven't got round to yet though!  So many books so little time ...

Ooo, I reckon:

A Song of Ice and Fire

Robin Hobb's Assassin series

Stephen King's The Dark Tower (especially books 2, 3 and 4)

Bernard Cornwell's Warlord trilogy (dancing a delicious line between fantasy and historical fiction)

Adrian Tchaikovsky's Shadows of the Apt
The Copper Promise

I've gone off series a bit recently, as I've started quite a few but rarely finish--which is more a reflection on their length (and my attention span) than quality. Many of my favourite books are either outside long series or work well as stand-alones but have a series attached.  Still, I'll play anyway:

Lord of the Rings - can't remember his name
Eternal Champion - Moorcock (Elric, Corum, Hawkmoon - I've read lots of these because the books are short!)
Black Company - Glen Cook
Winter of the World - Michael Scott Rohan (trilogy, not subsequent additions)
Chalion series - Lois McMaster Bujold (ok, I've only read first two)
Echoes of Empire - Mark T Barnes
Lankhmar - Fritz Leiber (episodic more than series, but whatever)
Zimiamvian/Ouroborous - E R Eddison (again, whatever)
Gormenghast - Mervyn Peake
A Land Fit for Heroes - Richard Morgan (only 2 so far, but this is one series I will finish)
The Monarchies of God by Paul Kearney is on my list of things to complete (3/5 finished)

I also quite liked the Elenium (rather than the normal Belgariad) by Eddings but it's been 20 years so I'm not sure it would stand up...

Just from skimming the last two pages of this thread I can tell that people here are very well read and have interesting tastes. For the most part at least..... I feel almost embarrassed to post what my favorite fantasy series are now. Some of the series that people mentioned I've never even heard of.

Threads like this are a good chance to look at what else is around, see that the genre has a rich and varied history and maybe even expand your own reading horizons with in it a little. I have a problem nailing down my favourite series, because it keeps altering as I read.
I will expand your TBR pile.

Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss
Gentleman Bastard by Scott Lynch
Demon Cycle by PV Brett
Broken Empire by Mark Lawrence
The Old Kingdom by Garth Nix
A Song of Ice and Fire by George R R Martin
Mistborn By Brandon Sanderson
The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson
The Black Magician by Trudi Canavan
Night Angel by Brent Weeks

There are lots of others I really like, but these are the first 10 that came to me… Red Rising I have high hopes for :) Also, strangely, seeing as I didn't like the first book that much, I am VERY excited about the next Lightbringer book (Brent Weeks).

Focusing mostly on complete or at least having a significant amount of books out.

1) Malazan Book of the Fallen - Steven Erickson
3) Mistborn - Brandon Sanderson (Malazan is so good that we have to skip #2)
4) First Law world - Joe Abercrombie (No idea what to call his series once you get past the initial trilogy)
5) Dresden Files -  Jim Butcher
5) Harry Potter - JK Rowling
6) Wheel of Time - Robert Jordan

Oh, this is a tough one.

OK.

1. Jacqueline Carey - Kushiel (both Kushiel trilogies and the naamah trilogy too)

2. Scott Lynch - Gentlemen Bastards

3. Brandon Sanderson - mistborn/Stormlight archive (couldn't choose. Love both)

4. Stephen Deas - all. His dragons are amazing, scary and intelligent.

5. Mark Lawrence - broken empire. Need I say more?

This is very difficult (like choosing your favourite child, I assume)...

At the moment these are a few of mine (maybe they'll change), in no particular order:

* Broken Empire, Mark Lawrence
* Chronicles of a Cosmic Warlord, A.J. Dalton
* Night Angel, Brent Weeks
* Glass Book of the Dream Eaters, G.W. Dahlquist
* Mistborn, Brandon Sanderson
* Twilight Reign, Tom Lloyd

At home in the Fantasy Faction forum!

I'm "She Who Reigns Over Us All In Crimson Cheer", according to Peat!

Have you tried her urban fantasy series: Agent of Hel (first book Dark Current)? It was the first Carey I've read and I found it absolutely excellent, a near perfect example of how to do a UF book.

I've got a signed copy of dark currents but don't have the 2nd or 3rd book yet. I liked it, just can't afford the next two yet. :(
