Always good to have another site for fantasy. The Assistant editor of f-f is setting it up.

Depends, will they have a forum?

Seems a bit under-handed, to be honest... :-\
So she, as far as I know, 'raises to fame' through Fantasy Faction, and then goes and sets up a competing site? Even moving some of the regular FF features (the Tough Travel thing - I read it was going to 'fantasy hive' but I didn't know what that was)?
I'll stay here.

As for what Bea said... I did think that a little bit myself. But then how many companies and websites are founded by people learning their craft at one place and striking out themselves?

Laura M Hughes has been a writer for Tor.com for ages as well as contributing and is well known on their website. She is excellent at promoting and discussing Fantasy on Twitter @HalfStrungHarp, her posting is lively and fun and gives writers exposure all the time.

She has written a novelette, Danse Macabre, and is very active in the UK Fantasy community as well as writing many articles for FF.  Will be very interesting to see how the hive turns out, I expect it will be popular as she has a ready made following, but also there is always a point of saturation, so who knows?

Many belong to more than one fantasy group, especially writers who need all the publicity they can get.

So will we all be going over there instead of* F-F to get our fantasy fix ? always good to have another site for fantasy. The Assistant editor of f-f is setting it up.

* Meant to add, it needn't be instead of, can always be as well as. ;D

I will give it a chance but I’ve  got a feeling it will be very  duplicatey so I hope it will be a bit different to what we have now.

Fantasy is my excuse for being here at F-F.
You guys are my reason.  :-*

Well, Tough Traveling was not a Fantasy Faction original, it was another bloggers meme that ran for a while, died out, was resurrected with the main post being hosted on Fantasy Faction.

Sorry, I didn't mean to 'attack' her - as I said, i only know her from here. It was just my immediate reaction,

I didn’t take it as an attack, just an honest reaction. And I mentioned Tough Traveling mainly because I participated for a couple of years before it was hosted on FF, and so never really associated it strongly with FF because of that.

I'll almost certainly visit this Hive for the articles, but I doubt I'll engage in a community there. I have much the same relationship with Tor.com. One forum is more than enough to keep me busy.

Jmack  works with my wife's cousin, so he's practically family. So I'll just follow him, because connections can't be annoying without commitment and dedication.

As stated from the writers perspective and from preventing things stagnating a new site is always more than welcome. I can think of half a dozen that have shut down in the time I have been at FF.
Personally I am stuck in my ways, don't do social media and have no desire to spend my time elsewhere. I don't do reddit and while I may pop by the Hive front page I only skim the front page at FF and it would need to be compelling to get my attention. My time is spent on the forums not the articles.
On brief acquaintance and from her work Ms. Hughes seems competent, clever and capable and I would wish her all the best for the Hive and the future.

I'd say the more the merrier-- but it is nice when niche's don't overlap 100%. Will her site have a specific identity beyond just fantasy?

One day I want to have my blog NerdEmpire up and running--  I'm thinking of a more general nerd-interest magazine with 1-3 articles up per month.  Like interviews with concept artists, a place for my short stories here and there, and hopefully tons of guest posts from friends :) (if anyone wants to write about some random nerdiness! Maybe I can talk Teb into writing about VR, I want to write something about nerds getting bullied, stuff like that)

When I started F-F there weren't any Fantasy communities around. In fact, it was my frustration that only Sci-Fi based forums, etc existed that pushed me to create the site (remember that this was a time before Facebook Groups, Goodreads and Reddit).

I think it's cool that there are more Fantasy communities now than there were back then and welcome more. Fantasy-Faction isn't as big as it once was (my fault due to having other stuff going on in my life), but we've an amazingly loyal and brilliant community and it's not the size of it or exclusivity that causes that (thankfully).

I'll miss Laura who will leave us, but at the same time she is setting off on her own journey with other people I'm very fond of and I know how exciting that is (and also how scary!). I wish her (and all of them) luck :D In terms of any hard feelings: Laura and I met up in person recently, plan to again soon and speak regularly online. We're friends and always will be ;)

Finally.... Fantasy Hive have said they won't have a Facebook Group/Forum, so you won't need to worry too much about the crossover on that side of things. Fantasy-Faction's articles aren't as regular as they once were, but we'll keep putting things out and we'll keep our social channels open and we'll perhaps surprise you with some new kinds of content early next year too.

@Overlord I think your content is great, there's plenty of it, it's well paced and in complete honesty I think this forum is the best place on the internet-- at a time where the internet can be a scary place full of trolls and their hapless victims.

You've built a really wonderful community here and I think you deserve credit for having done something incredibly special.  Thank you and Merry Christmas back at you.

Yes! Thus far I'm writing articles about VR and such, but hope to branch out into other stuff too. Either way I'm stoked to be involved, but plan to be around these forums for a long, long time. :)
