Fantasy-Factions Top 30 Most Anticipated Fantasy Books of 2014
« on: January 01, 2014, 11:00:19 AM »
It took around 40 hours of discussing, arguing, fighting and even logical debating to get this list to you today. The top 10 especially seemed nearly impossible to order and number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 swapped places so many times it was ridiculous. Eventually we got it locked in and most of us agreed whilst the rest relented.

Essentially, these kinds of list present a real challenge: do you base it on whose last book was best, who has the best book available (even if their last book – or even few books – was a disappointment), whose book has the most potential due to the plot threads set up… it is really, really tough and depending how you weight the answers to these questions you could have a completely differently ordered Top 30.

I hope you guys enjoy the list and, as always, I would like to invite your opinion in the comments. Please be kind though – a lot of time went into this thing:

Neat list, definitely a few going onto my wishlist. And very glad to see Den Patrick, Sam Sykes & Douglas Hulick on it... looking forward to those three books immensely, and they'd be on my top 10 as well.

No Drakenfeld 2? Given Drakenfeld was on the best of 2013 list, that feels like a weird oversight?

Very cool list! I shamefully have to say that I haven't heard much about half the books listed there...
You included all books I'm anticipating, so great job! :)

Wasn't listed for release on Amazon or Goodreads, so I presumed it would be a 2015 release (was aware Mark had been getting married and such this year).

Phew! I really hate coming up with these lists, because the people who agree tend to nod silently whilst the people who disagree voice their opinion aggressively, lol :P

Definitely 2014! With book 3 in 2015. Mark's a stone cold pro. Marriage shmarriage, he's not one to miss a deadline.

Few people have also mention Steve Erikson and Raymond Feist as probably deserving a spot, but we can't find any info confirming the books for 2014.  -_-'

Looks like a great list! My order would have been different, I think, but overall I'd say well done!

My choice would have been:

1)Thorn of Emberlain (I love Locke, RoT slightly sub-parness was hard for me to take)
2) Prince of Fools (I love Mark - and I think this new series will have the same magic as Jorg's)
3) Tower Lord (Blood Song was absolutely one of the best I read in 2013, can't wait for this!)
4) Sworn in Steel (been waiting for this one for ages)
5) Words of Radiance (Way of Kings was good, and I'll def be checking this one out, but I don't think it deserved top spot).

Just my opinions, and looking forward to seeing what everyone else thinks!

Great list!  Words of Radiance is also my top pick for next year, but I'm also glad to see lots on there that I haven't really heard much about, or sequels in a series that I'm eager to start.  Thanks for all your hard work!

Am I to presume this is a 'great list' then? I'm not entirely sure whether I've understood what you are all trying to say, so just want to make sure ;)

A good list of books.  For me at least I am anticipating a few of the books on the list - second or third or the next in the series books in the series; a few book 2s are also coming out that look good - have to get around to reading book 1 first; but there is also a few new series that look quite good as well - it should be a good read for fantasy this year.
