Fantasy-Faction Con 2016
« on: August 10, 2015, 11:08:10 AM »
Fantasy-Faction Con in 2016 then...

Two day event that will merge panels and fantasy full activities with social environment to talk, eat and drink. Very much like an extended version of the Grim Gathering.

My first question is: what month would be best to hold a two day event?

---

Sorry my US friends, this would be UK based although 2017 I'm looking at the first US based event in New York :-)

Yes, but then we might get snow and not be able to travel and all those things...

April or May.
And please do it mid-month!
I assume it will be Friday+Saturday? Not mid-week either.

Where are you thinking of doing it?

Location is still open. Keen to NOT do London. My aim, eventually, will be to do one very South and one very North, but we'll obviously have to build ourselves up for that :-)

100% be weekend.

Joanne made some good points:
Eastercon is March/ April,
Nineworlds is August,
FantasyCon is usually September / October,
December is Christmas,
No one has any money in January...

That leaves us with:

February
May
June
July
November

Yay, for weekend.

Feb or May it is, then - June-July are holiday months, and I can't wait until November ;)

You've done the 'very South' one last year (yes, Bristol is very south hehe).
I'd suggest Leeds or Manchester, that's sort of mid UK? Very big Waterstones in both places :)
And then the very North would be in Scotland (Glasgow or Edinburgh).

Manchester/Liverpool/Scotland would be my preferences for the next event just so that we've spread ourselves out a bit :-)

Great!
You know, Leeds is a much nicer city than Manchester ;) although we prefer to keep that secret hidden hehe

Summer would probably be best, since that way it'll be nicer weather and people can potentially hang out outside. Ideally it'd be in Manchester, since that way we can fly directly there and use public transport to get around - if it's anywhere else (other than London) we probably wouldn't be able to come.  :)

Leeds is 1 hour by direct train from Manchester Airport :P

But ok, please do Manchester :D
And May can also be a very nice weather month: have you forgotten that there's no guarantee of nice weather in June or July, hehe?

True, but any extra journeys add cost, and we're not exactly rich.  :-\

May counts as early summer for me, which is probably one of the the best times of year to have it.

So May it is :D

And ok I get it, no worries :)
I'd offer you a place to sleep at mine, but I don't have room - I even send my parents to a hotel.
But there are cheap-ish places in Manchester, feel free to ask me tips about areas and so on.

Jmack, that can't be possible! Really??

Probably not.  :-[
But many months notice is very useful for such things.

Aww thanks, I'm sure we'll be fine! If it's in Leeds we'll definitely have to get some tips. I grew up in/around Manchester, and Saurus came to live with me there for a few years before we moved over here so we'd be sorted if it was there. If it's in Manchester we could possibly stay with one of my bosses to save money, but since they live outside the city it might not actually save all that money anyway.  ;)

I'm actually getting very excited about this. If all goes well, by the beginning of next year I will have moved to Scotland, so it will become a real possibility for me to come to the event!  ;D ;D ;D

I vote for May, only because it's the month of my birthday - how egocentric, I know  :P Truly, I'm not sure how things will go, but I expect to be fully settled by March / April, so anything from then on will be alright.
