Fantasy-Faction's next Grim Gathering is coming...
« on: March 12, 2016, 09:28:33 AM »
Fantasy-Faction's next Grim Gathering event will be in April/May/June, we are leaving it up to the community to decide when is best. It will be in either Bristol/Bath/Swindon (sorry my Northern friends, you know I'm desperate to get one up there soon, it's just a bit short notice for me to explore venues. I'm planning a trip to Liverpool/Manchester and another to Scotland to scope some potentials).

With this in mind, when would be the best date for you? I asked people whether they would like another weekday event or a weekend event and the overwhelming response was that a weekend would be much better.

This opens a few doors and what we are looking to do now is make it a big social event with 2 panels and a workshop.

  • Panel featuring 3/4 authors.
  • Lunch.
  • Panel featuring 3/4 authors.
  • Break.
  • Optional workshop for writers that will be presented by two well-known authors.
  • Drinks and fun.

It looks, from Facebook and Twitter, that there will be quite a few people up for coming... Hopefully some of you guys will be up for it too. I'm thinking that if people are up for it, we could try and get a room deal for a local hotel (I think you need 10+ which we could manage easily).

Oh wow.
I might be able to drive down and then stay over saturday night, so join for lunch and the afternoon/evening events
 :D

We can't choose multiple dates in the poll, so I can do:
May 14
May 21
May 28

Jun 11
Jun 18
Jun 25

(at the moment it's hard to pinpoint more)

great I will stop nagging now.
I thought the chill out recovery breakfast was a great idea at the last one and would welcome another, if people are doing an overnight stay. That said if there is anything I can help with I would welcome the opportunity to give a little back to the site I spend so much time on.

Oh, I might be able to come to this one!  :) I can't select multiple dates, so I'll say that April and May would probably be better for me. A room deal for a local hotel would be great.

That matches my thoughts, Bea. What I was thinking is that the regulars may want to stay in Bath (I'm going to stay there too - it's only about 40 minutes from me, but it'll be easier).

Also, like Rostum, I liked the breakfast too. Actually, it was my favourite bit :P

What I am likely to do is run the event as above and keep the details of the breakfast (the following day) a little quieter and exclusive to the forum folk and Facebook regulars (like last time). That way it won't get 'too' crazy and we will have that same intimacy we had last time that actually allowed us to talk and hear each other :D

Ooooh I so much like that :D

Could we get Jen, please? That would prevent me from unashamedly stalk her next time I am in London ;D

Oh, and now I recognise you, Rostum!

And by the way Marc, I can help in Manchester - at least meet you there when you come up :)

I think you are just ashamed of us and don't want your friends to know what you get up to online!

You can't say that to a guy who writes Henry the Jack and his friend Conan in a pink tutu ;D

Anyway, he's spoiled: he knows that when he does show up in the UK we'll make a mini-GG for him (well, depending which area of the UK he goes to hehe)

Unfortunately that is always when I can't take time off: teachers work to the rhythm of terms, finance people by weeks of the month, hehe
(although this year my company's 'months' are slightly off the normal calendar, I might actually find a time that works!)

Bah. Won't manage to go that far, I'm afraid. Need to save the dosh now I'm out of work.

I saw that there is some sort of event on Joe Abercrombie's tour that is 'in association' with FF. Wouldn't that have fit as a Grim Gathering?
