I think I understand why people don't like Terry Brooks—a fantasy author I love reading. It's just a different taste. One thing I don't understand is how anyone can enjoy Terry Pratchett's books  :o
Which one do you read? They're very different, especially older and newer books, and I bet we'll be able to point one out you'd enjoy. [If you don't start it with the mindset that you definitely plan to not enjoy it, and maybe even then.]

I read two, but I really don't remember the names. The worst of the two involved a football match between teams of wizards. I forced myself to read about half the book before giving up.

Pratchett’s humour doesn’t work for me either.

Unseen Academicals is one of the weaker books, without knowing the history of the characters from other books, I doubt it even makes sense. Definitely not a book that works very well as a standalone.

@Eclipse, Pratchett isn't only about humour, did you partake in the book club when we read Nation?

Pratchett is more satire than straight out humour. One of the great things about Discworld was that it contained different series within its whole, and they could appeal to different fans. Lejays17 loves Discworld, but never cared for the Moist von Lipwig books.

I’ve read Colour of Magic, Guards! Guards! and Mort.
If you've read those last 2 and haven't liked them then Pratchett isn't for you. Mort is my favourite.
