It's the books for me.

The films are ok, they didn't ruin the story much, but the books go deeper in the growth and conflicts of the characters, as well as showing a lot more of secondary characters and plots.

Funnily enough, I only have books 3 to 7 at home, since 1 and 2 belonged to my sister and when we moved house she kept them, and I never got around to buy the copies...

I see them as two separate things. (and that is usually my stance for all book/movie series)
The movies are great as movies and the books are great as books.

Thats why I can´t imagine movies doing any justice to the books they are based on, the actors just can´t catch the emotions and actings of the characters in the books.

I think Richard Harris got Dumbledore right in the 1st 2 films.

Books.

There are very few cases where I prefer the film to the book of anything.

I haven't even seen all of the HP films, despite owning the bluray boxed set. I think I've seen four of them.

It's hard to make a clear judgement when I read the books first.

Definitely the books. The movies are too dark. Some great actors, though. Emma Watson for example.

The books, although it's been more than a decade since I read the last one, and I often wonder how I would feel about them if I were to read them now. I have never reread books (except non-fiction), but if I ever do the HP ones will be it.

For me it's the books hands down. The films were great, and they stuck really closely to the books, which I really appreciated, but by book 3 there was just not enough time to cover everything, and so the movies started to feel like highlight packages, or really long trailers.
IMHO the best way of consuming Harry Potter is to listen to the Stephen Fry Audiobooks. He has to be one of the greatest narrators in the industry.

I struggled with the final book, so I found I preferred the movie there. But that’s the exception.

I couldn't endure Rowling's prose and never made it past the first book. The movies were surprisingly entertaining, but the final one dragged.

I like JK Rowling's Twitter account. Does that count?
