My favourite shelves http://i.imgur.com/KdNsTKV.jpg  :)
Is that a US Wise Mans Fear I see? I'd love one of those. Shame the shipping from America on ebay costs alot more than the book.

Oh and send us some pics of your personal libraries, dying to see'em.

Had I known it existed I would never have started this thread.  :o Cheers!

We don't so much collect books in our household, as get overrun by them. There's very little rhyme or reason to the books we own, simply "That is a thing that exists and I must have it". We gather the works of particular authors, but don't care much about formats, editions or signatures. I'm even against the grouping of all books by a single author into one place, but my love of finding something I forgot I owned while looking for something else entirely was overruled by Mrs B getting increasingly annoyed at not being able to find what she's looking for. I'll confess a weakness for the Warner Books editions of Christopher Fowler's back catalogue, but that's about as far as it goes.
I am NOT short. I'm further away than I look.

Book collecting scares me a little. I have the chance to book collect, and I feel that at some point in my life I probably will move into it. However, I enjoy personal signatures more than impersonal ones. I like it when an author signs 'To Max' or gives me a quote, or draws me a doodle. It makes me feel like I am the object of their affection, their happiness, their attention for a moment, even if it will never happen again.

Thus, if I were to collect I'd have to double-buy. One for the personal signature, for me to read and batter and love unconditionally. Another for the bleak, signature only, to wrap in cellophane, and leave on the shelf as a prized possession.

Two new ones. Uncorrected Proof of The Heroes signed and lined and a 1st edition Scourge of the Betrayer by Jeff Salyards.

Normally our shelves are less, er, "shelved" and more like "crammed and wedged in", but I was shuffling stuff around last weekend and snapped some pictures...

Abercrombie bookporn! (I got super-lucky with Abercrombie, and started snaffling his books when they first came out. Which... makes me feel kind of old. Oy.)

China Miéville bookporn! (Sorry the photos are so ridiculously grainy - includes a shot of the collection's vicious guardian! The street artist Deadly Knitshade made five of these for an event a few years ago. They're adorable.)

Everything's all reshelved ("recrammed-back-on-shelves") so that's really all I can do in the way of photos!

Are you all very anal with your collections? By which I mean only S/L/D, or do you have a place in your hearts for an inscription to yourselves?

I guess this is an 'are you collecting for yourself or posterity' question...

I much prefer inscriptions! As much as I like to study up on values and pretend that they are investments, really the books are for me. Me me me.

I received an ARC of Game of Thrones as a present a while back, can't be too many of them floating around. And not the re-release ones, one of the originals I think. The book is pretty old and was a cool gift.

Others I have that I treasure is a signed Prince of Thorns by Lawrence, signed Lies of Locke Lamora by Lynch, signed Drakenfeld ARC by Newman, signed ARC of Ragged Man by Lloyd and signed Dusk Watchman, signed Tome of the Undergates and Black Halo by Sykes  and signed limited edition of Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes.

I do have a few others that's escaping me at the moment, but these are my favourites.

Ooh, nice - where'd'you get the ARC of Drakenfeld from? I hear tell it's a good'un.

Mr Newton was kind enough to supply me with an ARC. And yes, it's damn good.

My Main Bookshelf,

Sorry about the not-so-good quality of the images, as they were taken with my Kindle Fire, and may need to be enlarged:

The books that you might not be able to see are the entire Broken Empire Trilogy.

The pile of books that you see is obscuring The Blinding Knife & The Blade Itself.

And my Top Shelf, missing out on The Daylight War as I own an eBook:

I have a whole bookshelf dedicated to tie-in fiction of the Warhammer 40k/Warhammer Fantasy ilk that I haven't shown, and several piles of other books just to the left of said bookshelf.

The postman handed me something I've been witing ages for, this morning...

Blimey, what a beautiful book!

A signed hardback copy of Shadow Ops: Control Point is the only really notable book I have. Except for my remarkable collection of Secrets of Droon books... I must have over 30 of those.
