C S Friedman Magister Series is quite dark. I have read this trilogy only and quite enjoyed it. Feast of Souls was very good and I liked the idea of the souleaters but felt they were dragons by another name. The next book was slower and not as good as the first book in my opinion. Still, quite a god read

Night Winds by Karl Wagner should very clearly qualify as dark heroic fantasy. It's a collection of six stories that all involve Kane, a man with a black heart and cursed to live forever, tormented by seeing everything he loves and enjoys either die or becoming mind crushingly boring. Some consider him more demon than man, but he doesn't get any joy from terrorizing people or torture. (At least not anymore.) But he's frequently in the company of other terrible people and generally doesn't care about what they do to others. So it does get pretty mean at times, but it never descends into gore shlock. The darkness is much more the result of an overall gloom and bleakness.
The second and third story are mostly adventure stories with a brooding mood, but the other four are pretty dark indeed.
