A Dance with Dragons - TUESDAY, JULY 12, 2011
« on: March 03, 2011, 02:55:20 PM »
DRAGON TIME

 No.  Sorry.  Not done yet.

I'm close, though.  Watch this space.  When the book is done, you will read it here.

Meanwhile... there is news.  Big news.  The end is in sight, at long long last, and we're close enough so that my editors and publishers at Bantam Spectra have set an actual publication date.

A DANCE WITH DRAGONS will be in your favorite bookstore on:

TUESDAY, JULY 12, 2011

Yes, I know.  You've all seen publication dates before: dates in 2007, 2008, 2009.  None of those were ever hard dates, however.  Most of them... well, call it wishful thinking, boundless optimism, cockeyed dreams, honest mistakes, whatever you like.

This date is different.   This date is real.

Barring tsunamis, general strikes, world wars, or asteroid strikes, you will have the novel in your hands on July 12.  I hope you like it.

(For what it's worth, the book's a monster.  Think A STORM OF SWORDS.)

The dragons are coming.  Prepare to dance.

And hey... thanks for waiting.

Exciting time for fans, I actually thought perhaps it would be a few months after to give time for people to pick up the books and finish them by the end of the TV Show.

So, which came first, Martin actually finishing, or someone telling him *cough* that now would be a good time?  All I can say is about damned time!

Whilst this is exciting news to hear being a huge martin fan I'll believe it when I see it. Until the book is in my hands or available for sale I don't believe anything they say, it's a case of once bitten twice shy or 3 or 4 times bitten as this case may be.

I imagine someone suggested *strongly* that he bring it out around the TV show kind of time and deflect people from saying "the wait on the next book is pissing me off!"

I guess we just have to hope that it's the truth. Lynch was set on Feb and it was only 3 weeks before the release date (ish) that it was delayed... that was mad. We are still 120 days away or something?

I believe it this time as the updates over the past year have indicated it was close to being finished.and we have a specific date! But still harbour severe doubts whether the series as a whole will ever be finished.

What do people expext from the new book?

Since the plotlines of The Seven Kingdoms were covered in excruciating detail in a Feast of Crows - this time we know we are mainly covering events at The Wall and Over Seas.

Daenys and Jon Snow's plot lines will be central - but want to see both Bran and Tyrion given a lot of time too - hard to say too much here without giving away SPOILERS but will be majorly pissed of if we don't see 1)
Spoiler for Hiden:
Tyrion meet Daenys
and 2)
Spoiler for Hiden:
see Bran training with Coldhands - and who is Coldhands?  My money is on Bloodraven
and if the book doesn't end with
Spoiler for Hiden:
Daenys sailing for the Seven Kingdowns with either the Dornish, the Greyjoys or both in an uneasy alliance accompanying her

and for the love of God no more Briene or Cersai POVs!  They drove me crazy in AFFC!  But wouldn't be unhappy to see Arya or Jamie Lannister again!

Meh, I don't care much, to be honest.  I read all the others about three years ago, and I can't actually remember what happened.  I'm not slogging through it all again!  What's what happens when you keep people waiting - they lose interest in investing their time.

3 years is not that long...

I read A Storm of Swords in 2000 at 18...

the next book A Feast of Crows came out in 2005, and only continued the story for half of the characters.

I have been waiting ELEVEN fucking years to know what happens next to Jon Snow, Daenys, Tyrion and Bran!!!!!!!!!!!

I will be 29 when the book comes out .... and people wonder why the fans are so pissed with Mr George Rex Rufus Martin

But its that good a story - sorry, but the greatest fantasy saga ever written, that I have kept the faith

and damn him, he could sound a bit more grateful, and cheerful about the book finally coming out!
