Cruising the Cosmere: The Read-Along
« on: April 26, 2017, 11:19:09 AM »
Hello readers!  Welcome to Cruising the Cosmere: The Read-Along!  Over the next fifteen or so months I will be rereading and writing about all of the books, short stories, and novellas set in the Cosmere.  Yes, I predict it will take me fifteen months, no, I regret nothing.  The intro post went up last Friday and you'll be getting my first Elantris post soon.  I'm not doing a formal chapter-by-chapter readthrough because I think that might kill me, but there will be two articles for each novel and one for each short story or novella.

That said, it's way more fun to read along as a group!  This forum is a place to compare notes as you read with me, go in-depth into things I gloss over, and bring up the things I inevitably miss.  I won't be moderating so feel free to structure your discussion however feels best, but I'll drop in and participate.  There's nothing in the world I love more than talking about books with other people who love the same things!

Anyway, you have a month to read Elantris starting now-ish, so get cracking!  I'm thrilled to be diving back into one of my favourite series like this, and thrilled to have you along with me.  See you on Sel!

How about the read along section?

Don't think there be that many people interested enough to just have a Sanderson board.

I think it be better in the book club section myself. Good luck!

hahahahahahahaha! Sanderson's an amicable guy and I'm glad he inspires so much enthusiasm among you guys! I actually think there should be a separate Sanderson board so that I can know not to go there unless I've prepared myself psychologically to cringe when people gush over things I don't like about his writing.   :)  I feel like a grumpy hipster that's too cool for catchy pop music...

This is in response to the latest Elantris article.

My problem with half of the stuff there is this. None of it has been written in stone. It's all theory, and it's theory based on Sanderson interviews. For example, we know that the shards on Cel have been splintered because of letters from The Stormlight Archive and from Arcanum Unbounded. However, we do not know that it was a major battlefield between the three shards. For all we know, Odium could've showed up and splintered them without effort. and about the pools.. That's definitely theory. We've seen magical pools that we know have something to do with the Cognetive Realm because of Mistborn: Secret History, but that's it. I haven't read War Breaker yet, so maybe I'm missing something, but as far as I know there's no written confirmation that the pools do anything. Hell, there's hardly any good information to theorize about it.

No shady pool business in Warbreaker...

There was a post on the main site that linked to the forum, but yeah, no conversation around it.
