I wish you writers weren't so modest I've read a few anthologies and I much prefer the short stories here in the contest.

I tell you what slightly influence me when someone says something in the submission thread along the lines of " here it is I'm not happy with the story but here it is anyway" if the author feels that way I think to myself why should I vote for that story,it feels like there want me to vote for a different story in the contest.

i dunno.

as a writer, i'd much rather have votes for the stories i felt good about.  positively reinforce the good, negatively reinforce the bad.  if random stuff gets more votes, it's harder to tack in the direction of improvement.

You would understand if you wrote and submitted stories  :P
