Title: [Sep 2017] - Regret and Redemption - Voting Thread
Post by: ScarletBea on October 03, 2017, 12:30:10 PM
It's time to vote on the September Writing Contest: Regret and Redemption!

We got 8 entries this month - thanks to all who participated!

Please read through all of the entries in the submission thread and place your votes for your two favourite entries in this thread. You won't be able to see the vote breakdown until the vote closes, so spread the word for others to come and vote! We do ask that if you entered, to vote for someone else.

The key for the numbers of votes is this: 1-5 entries: 1 vote, 5-10 entries: 2 votes, 11-15 entries: 3 votes, 16-19: 4 votes, 20-25: 5 votes, 26+: 6 votes

Remember that the winning entry will be posted on the main Fantasy-Faction site in a few months.

Good luck to all our entrants and thank you for taking the time to read the stories and vote! :)

I voted already. Only chose one, because it was the one that stood out best, even though it was one of the most flawed in some ways. I might change my mind toward the end, seeing if I remember other stories distinctly and re-reading them, but right now that feels best.

Voted, ended up with a really hard final choice.

And bumpng this to remind everyone, Time is Not on Your Side*, hurry up and vote now  ;D

Wanted to post vid of Rod Stewart, but original had the worst choreo  and in the latest with Stevie Nicks the poor old guy could hardly walk, so sing Young Turks for yourselves instead. ;)

AND PLEASE VOTE

Argh! The less stories there are, the more difficult it is to vote!
I could easily vote for 4, and I must choose only 2 - how? ???

Browsing through all 4 again, I chose.
Sorry to those I left behind :-\

I solved that dilemna by voting only for one. It's harsh but solves the problem of an excruciating second choice.

But then I'd have to drop 3 stories... my way is better ;)

FYI there are 2 stories overtaking the others!

Sneaking in with my single vote. I usually just vote for 1, unless it's a tie for my favourite.

Congrats @The Gem Cutter  :D

I voted for you and our second place, @Alex Hormann - and the other 2 I really liked but didn't vote for was @Jmack and @Nora  :)

Well this is a lovely way to start my morning! Thank you for your votes! This is my first story to win and I am surprised, given the strengths of the forum's writers in short form, but very happy that you liked my story.

I don't know how obvious it is or isn't, but some might be interested in this story's background, because it was us. This story has been in my head for awhile, since last summer when I was new and Ms. Scarlet's health was at risk. M3mnoch responded to a post of hers with a beautiful picture of a flight of dragons coming to her rescue and that image stayed with me. I composed a melody of that idea on my keyboard, and over time it grew into a story of pictures and moods, but no words until this topic came along. So the blighting corruption in the story was inspired by cancer, and the dragons by M3m's picture. The Clockwork Keep, whose purpose is only hinted at, is this forum, where East and West meet. And the Clockwork Queen is Ms. Scarlet, who seems to keep things positive and balanced - a noble purpose, indeed. The disheveled knight was new to the idea, and represents the way we all feel when our strengths are of no use. Anyway, I am flattered to win. Thanks again.

Thanks so much, I feel incredibly honoured to have inspired such a great story!

So. Very. Close.

Thanks to those who voted for my little story.

Congratulations to @The Gem Cutter for winning, and to @Nora , who got my vote.

I should have said "inspired by" Ms. Scarlet, as there's not much to the CWQ, and I thought she came across a little patronizing, which Bea is not. But 1500 words is a tight space to say anything at all :)

Oh thank you very much Alex!
I ended up voting for Carter's story only, because I was torn between Alex and Rukaio. They were too similar for me to have a real favourite, so I chose against voting for a second story.

Congrats on good work all around. I liked Nighwrite's story too, but it lacked true regret or true redemption. It felt too ill fitted to the topic. Soz!  :P

Congratz, @The Gem Cutter ! I voted for you and @Alex Hormann.

That said, this was really hard. @Jmack wrote in a really bold and gripping style, @Nora also had a very curious and creative ghost story, Mikaela wrote a pretty good one too and @Rukaio_Alter was my second vote until I read Gem's story.

I stuck with Alex's because the flashbacks allowed me to see the character better, though Rukaio had a more powerful ending and reason for the character agreeing to help.

Congratulations TGC on your story, enjoyed it very much.  ;D I finally voted for you and Alex, although liked Rukaio’s story too.

Many congratulations to @The Gem Cutter. The origin of the Clockwork Queen et al is quite lovely, but I voted for it because of the grandeur and poignancy of the tale and characters. It was... noble.

I also voted @Nora’s tale and enjoyed all the others.
