okey dokey.
so, instead of writing my 1750 entry on my holiday, i procrastinated by writing a bunch of code (combination of r, python, and bash) to dig through all of the stories/authors submitted during 2016 so far.
so, the information i can share without really giving anything away is the authors that bubbled up as having entries in the contest.

you'll notice there are more authors than stories. that basically reflects that about 1/3 of the stories were questionably attributed to multiple people. i suspect a lot of the uncertainty comes from either new authors or authors who haven't submitted much this year -- because the analysis works best with as large a corpus (writing samples) as possible.
some interesting bits:
- about half the stories matched one author heavily, with maybe one or two distant second authors.
- a couple stories (the grinning man, for example) HEAVILY matched a BUNCH of author writing styles.
- a couple stories (fashion monsters, for example) didn't hardly match anyone's. (so, surprise! it's a good candidate for a first-time entrant.)
- a few people with large corpuses matched with tons of stories as a group (me, jmack, tebakutis, rukaio)
- a few people with large corpuses matched with only one or no stories (nora, lanko, aav)
- a few people with relatively small corpuses matched strongly with lots of stories (gem_cutter, blackthorn, nerf)
if you're on either list above and want to know what story the program attributed to you, send me a private message!
