[Nov 2014] - joker month - Discussion Thread
« on: November 01, 2014, 09:45:45 PM »

November is (because of NaNoWriMo) a special month for writers. To honor this, I'm going to do something special. :)

This month you can choose between all the themes we already did this year.
So you started a story but didn't finish it in time...
Or you planned on write one but real life got in the way...
Or you discovered this forum and the writing contests too late...

Now you have the chance (again). :)

Here's a recap of what we did this year:

[January 2014 - Betrayal]

[February 2014 - Fanfic]

[March 2014 - Grimdark]

[April 2014 - Write about Jake/Lynn!]

[May 2014 - Portal Fantasy]

[June 2014 - Taboos!]

[July 2014 - Apprenticeship]

[August 2014 - The Seven Deadly Sins]

[September 2014 - Cliché and Tropes]

[October 2014 - Abandoned Places]

Rules:

1. This can be prose or a poem.
2. The story must follow the rules and briefing from one of the monthly writing contests 2014
3. Prose must be 500-1500 words long.
4. Poetry must be 100-500 words long.
5. You will be disqualified if you exceed the limits, full stop. That's why they're called limits.
6. Your entry can't be published somewhere else before.
7. This is a writing contest, not a "I have written something like this ten years ago" contest. So if you happen to have a story that fits one of the themes, I'd like it to have a mayor overhaul/edit. Work for it. ;)
8. Please add your story's word count and, if you have, your twitter handle.
9. Please put your story in [ spoiler ] tags to make the thread easier to handle. :) You can find them above the smileys next to the 'youtube' symbol:

Entry will close December 1st 2014 and voting will begin somewhere around the same time too.*

All members are eligible to join. If you are not a member you can join here. Sign up is free and all are welcome! :)

The winner will have their piece displayed on the main Fantasy Faction website in early 2015.

Please post your entry here.

Note: This thread is only for questions or discussing this month's writing contest. Good luck!

*I seem to never be home around the end of month, so please excuse me if I'm not always on time (which is hard in an international contest with all the time zones anyways. ;))

Haha! That's brilliant :) And just as I was feeling all frustrated about my story not coming together for last month. I don't know how many times I started it! Now I get a second chance to start a bit earlier instead of cramming it all into the last week. :P I also owe a critique or two, for the deadly sins, not forgetting those.

I like the idea of this, but it seems like for the ones I entered I only had the one short story in me for them, because I can't come up with anything else. I did think about Betrayal, but the bunny isn't interested. I think she's hibernating in reverse, although she may wake up in December, because that's a chocolate month with Christmas and all and there's nothing that a plot bunny loves more than chocolate.
I will expand your TBR pile.

And I thought you all had dozens of half finished stories in your drawers. ;)

I have an idea. Whether or not I get the time to write it down is another matter entirely.

Can someone advise me how to put something in spoiler tags?  I see the [sp] button, but not sure what I'm supposed to do with it.

Thanks!

Just click it. The tags will appear in your post and everything you put between them is hidden. :)

Finally submitted, and really thought I wouldn't be able to make it this month. This makes it my fifth entry in the Writing Contest though, for which I am very proud  :D

Went with the 'Grimdark' theme, which I hadn't taken part in, and hope people enjoy what I've come up with.

You should be getting that new tag on your id MG. I thought I'd be last entry, but a few came in after me.

I'll lock the submissions thread now and start the voting. If it's still Dec 01 in your timezone and you have a story to submit, pm me the story and I'll add it tomorrow morning. :)
