Title: [May 2019] - EARTH - Voting Thread
Post by: ScarletBea on June 02, 2019, 02:05:23 PM
It's time to vote on the May Writing Contest: "Earth"

This time we got 7 entries, yay - thanks to all who participated.

Please read through all of the entries in the submission thread and place your votes for your two favourite entries in this thread. You won't be able to see the vote breakdown until the vote closes, so spread the word for others to come and vote! We do ask that if you entered, to vote for someone else.

The key for the numbers of votes is this: 1-5 entries: 1 vote, 5-10 entries: 2 votes, 11-15 entries: 3 votes, 16-19: 4 votes, 20-25: 5 votes, 26+: 6 votes

Remember that the winning entry will be posted on the main Fantasy-Faction site in a few months.

Good luck to all our entrants and thank you for taking the time to read the stories and vote! :)

I thought the same, hehe - it's good to have 2 votes, after a couple of months of just a handful of stories!

And about June, I think so, it depends if @xiagan is busy or not.
We've agreed a theme - at least I told him the one I liked best, I'm not sure if he'll go ahead with that one or not ;D

Voted!

A lot of decent stories there, but two absolute BELTERS! The two I chose I didn't just like, they were two of the best I've read on here since I started doing this (a year ago already  :o )  :)

Way to make people sweat for the review thread Jake!

I'm almost done reading too! There are some proper quality stories this month, it's a pleasure. People were properly inspired by these element topics (And I'm totally not saying that because I won the water one!  ;D)

Yeah, I joined in on the Fire one and I've really enjoyed both writing and reading all three of these months  :)

Many to choose from, which is cool, but alas only two.
I’ll enjoy seeing how others voted!

Congratulations @Nora, another great story :D

I voted for you and @JMack!

And as the months progress, I realise that I'm really into both your writing styles, I always love your stories. And Alex Hormann's too, but this time he just lost the vote by a whisker, hehe
If we didn't have so many newbies I'd like to do another anonymous month where we had to guess who wrote what, as I feel I'd be able to identify both your stories ;D

Congratulations, @Nora! I loved the world and the magic, plus the sense of specificity you brought. @Alex Hormann, the last line was so very fun. The whole thing was so very wrong it was right. You both had my votes.

@Slaykomimi, I was this close to giving you the nod.
@Matthew, you Story was really strong, too. Hard time choosing!

Congrats Nora!

My votes went to Jmack and Alex. Particularly loved Alex's as it reminded me of some of the weird early Stephen King shorts I read in Night Shift  :)

Wooh, thanks a lot everyone! I've been so busy this month I had forgotten about this!

Since I have won both Water and Earth, I proudly announce myself to be the official Mudcake writter!

I wanted to expand this story a lot more, cover what Mothers and initiate daughters are and all, and in the end I was too pressed for space, but I really enjoyed writing this, so i'm glad to see it was well liked!

It was a tough month for decisions. In the end my votes went to @Matthew and @Alex Hormann I liked the earth-bender ideas of one, and the creepiness of the other.
Jmack's story was very well written, but too uniformly grim for me this month, which is fucking rich coming from me, I KNOW.  ;D
But good uses of the elements all around. We should keep at it... we've done the basic ones but we could go with lightning/electricity and gravity and vacuum etc!

This is a separate section that needs an admin to activate the Likes, and our admins are currently absent, so we go without ;D

Is @Autumn2May  an admin?

There should be a ritual where we can turn Elfy into an admin. Darewood has the book of rituals 😀

Oh yes, she might be too.
I always get confused between admins and mods...
And agreed!

My votes went to @JMack and @Nora. Really liked most of what I read though, some tough competition here.

I'd say both were tied in my eyes, Nora had some great wordsmithing and JMack is simply brutal...

I'm genuinely surprised I managed 3 votes myself. Gives me the incentive to finish the novella I continued on from the entry.

Finish this story Matthew, but don't miss this month either!! I really liked your style, I'm curious to see more from you.

Now how do you guys feel about a critique thread for this month?

I’m for it! I was kind of thinking of doing a D_Bates and putting in a mini-crit for each story. Would you want to do that too?

I think I've got an idea for this one, I'll add it to the discussion thread of the new one.

As for the novella, It's come along a ways since you saw it last, sitting at about 11k words and just plugging away with a little buildup before the final chapter (start to finish fight scene).

Critics are always welcome for me too :o

It's a good idea. I can't easily do medium sized reviews, I'm usually a one liner or a line by line review...

Just took a break and decided to read some of these for fun.  Great job @Nora !  It was fun listening to your music while I read it.
