Randomly doing some research on fairy tales, came across this statement:
While both fables and fairy tales are teaching stories, the lesson of a fairy tale typically cannot be summed up in a simple moral statement. The meaning of a fairy tale is multiple, possibly even complex and ambiguous.
Thinking about it, that sounds about right to me.
Yes, didn't want to "correct" Xi's instructions, but I don't think simple morals are the thing in fairy tales. I did read that they all concern violations of correct behavior and what comes from them, and I think that's generally true if all the European fairy tales I can think of.
