Retribution Falls - Spoiler Free Book Club Review
« on: March 03, 2013, 03:49:42 PM »
I know a few of us have finished already, so I am going to open this up so people can post spoiler free thoughts while they are fresh. Maybe some people will be convinced to join in since we still have most of the month left

Just a reminder, this is not a thread for discussion. It is meant to be a reference for people who have not yet read the book. They can come and read this thread to see what our book club thought of Retribution Falls without fear of spoilers. They can then see if they want to add it to their TBR list.

I definitely would recommend this one to people. I think it's a light fun read full of action and humor :) And a bit of mystery.

To me, this seems like a great book to recommend to anyone. Regardless of what books they normally read, this book is just so entertaining that everyone will just love it. Hugely enjoyable and a solid recommendation, especially to fans of Firefly and other character-driven stories.

I already gave my copy to a friend to read. :) It's really a great book.

The pacing (and the way you were thrown right into it) reminded me a lot on Douglas Hulick's Among Thieves, so if you liked that book, this may be something for you too (more steampunky aircraft pirates, though). :)

Loved it, used the money I got from my birthday to get the next two and am now reading the second in the series

Def a book I could recommend to friends who are not big fantasy readers.

Anyone else want their own Bess!??

I loved this book and the series. Some of the interplay between Pinn, Harkins and Slag is just brilliant. Frey is also the closest thing I've seen to Han Solo since Star Wars.
I will expand your TBR pile.

Didn't bother to finish as it became clear all the characters I wanted to die in a fire were not going to oblige me. I will be giving my copy to the library (only slightly chewed upon).

I'm sometimes wondering: do you know anyone else with your particular taste in books?

I have a few friends who enjoy some of the books that I like, but I have a really low tolerance and no patience for some things. Most of those things just so happen to be popular. :P

I see. :) I'm the opposite - my tolerance is too high and I've finished books that weren't worth finishing...

Can't see what's not likeable about Retribution falls, though. :)

Strange. I thought I was pretty clear about what was putting me off the book and this isn't the place to repeat it. :P

Sorry, you're right. I haven't read the discussion threads because I want to post my "untainted" impressions there first (which I somehow still haven't done...).
