Dan Harmon's Story Circle

This was posted on wired.com in 2011 but it's not there anymore.

Dan Harmon, who, among other things, created the TV show Community and Rick and Morty, codified the storytelling process, revealing the hidden structure powering movies, TV shows and - of course - fantasy novels. Not every short story works that way but some do and this month we want you to try this structure. We'd love to hear afterwards how it worked for you and if not, why not.
Who knows, you may even learn something new about (your) writing. ;)

Rules:

1. This must be prose or poetry.
2. Your story's main character has to go through all eight steps of the story circle.
3. Prose must be 500-1500 words long.
4. Poetry must be 100-750 words long.
5. One story per person or writing team (not per account).
6. You will be disqualified if you exceed the limits, full stop. That's why they're called limits.
7. Your entry can't be published somewhere else before.
8. This is a writing contest, not a "I have written something like this ten years ago" contest. So if you happen to have a story that fits one of the themes, I'd like it to have a mayor overhaul/edit. Work for it. ;)
9. Please add your story's word count and, if you have, your twitter handle.
10. Please put your story in [ spoiler ] tags to make the thread easier to handle. :) You can find them above the smileys under the B.
Bonus rule: We consider voting in a contest you're taking part in a given. Others take time and effort to read the stories - you should do the same. A small community like ours lives from reciprocity and this contest needs stories as much as votes.

If you want so submit your story anonymously you can do so by sending it in a personal message to @xiagan.

Entry will close March 31st/April 1st, 2019 and voting will begin somewhere around the same time too.

All members are eligible to join. If you are not a member you can join here. Sign up is free and all are welcome! :)

The winner will have their piece displayed on the main Fantasy Faction website sometime in the next months.
Submitting a story counts as published. The author retains all rights to their work.

Please post your entry here.

Note: This thread is only for questions or discussing this month's writing contest. Good luck!

I’ve been reading Harmon’s full treatment of “his” circle at Channel202.fandom.com.
Very funny, interesting and useful treatment of the Hero’s Journey.
I’m pretty psyched for this month.

Zone of comfort: The Couch, in front of the TV
They want something: Nachos.
Unfamiliar situation: Cupboard is empty. Car is broken.
Adapt to it: Walk to shop.
Get what they want: Buy Nachos.
Pay a heavy price: Not fit, exhausted from trip.
Return to their familiar situation: Eat Nachos on Couch.
Having changed: Accept walking is good for fitness. Should get out more.

I am a poet.

Now write the story, adding some fantasy elements!

I really like this theme. And already settled on an idea. Lovely, given the struggles of the last two months' themes  :o :P

Now just need to find time to write it  :)

same. got the wheel all sorted and the first 100 words or so inked down, but whether I'll manage to banish my demons and actually write anything in time is up in the air.

Hope you're making progress  :)

After a hectic start to the month, I've managed to complete the first draft. I like the story, now just need to get the writing right  :P

I'm finding this one really hard to write without it just being a plot outline. Plus I'm away for the next few days, so hopefully there'll be a grace period. (pretty please)

Just hit my holidays. No way I'm making it sorry.

Anyone else currently finishing writing?

Or shall I lock the topic?
