Oh this "northern centered" brain of mine ::)
I read this and thought 'I don't think she's supposed to hibernate in summer, unless it's because of it being too hot' ;D

And don't, we like you around lots 8)

Argh!
Voting for a story I really like but isn't really 'gangstery' or another that I like less but a bit more on theme?

Oh well, this time I'll vote with my heart ;)

By the way: at the moment there is FIVE-WAY tie at the top!!! ;D
Please vote!

(and strangely, one story I also really liked has zero votes...)

Ah, that must be mine xD

I haven't voted yet so I'll go ahead and help breaking that tie before long.

Voted!
There were several entries with really strong writing but which didn't feel like full stories. I chose ones that had full arcs to them (at least in my view), even though the prose in two I didn't vote for was so good.

Voted. A cold day's excellent entertainment. Thank you to all who wrote a story and, as always, hard to narrow down to final choices. ;D

Now it's just a 2-way tie, with another 3 following close by (but I think there are new ones, that came from behind to overtake some of the ones on the initial 5-way tie)...

Around 24 hours left...

Finally voted as well. Really struggled for the third place. There wasn't any strong stand-out for it, I was torn between well written stories that didn't really deliver enough on the theme, and a more theme appropriate one that wasn't as exciting... It was a very tough pick, I could have given them all 3rd place together.

I'm impatient to see the results tomorrow!

Took a quick look at bedtime and hit the jackpot with results. Woohoo those are an unusual record. Two first places and three second places  :D Congrats Nora, Rukaio, Doc Chill, Jmack and Henry. That is splendid and my three votes are among you  ;D

Oh WOW, congrats to a lot of people!! And thanks to everyone for tying me in but no one short of God Emperor @Rukaio_Alter!

I voted for you man, and for Henry's cool cat story, and the Golden Shamrock! It was great too and I'm surprised it didn't steal the win!

edit : I'd like to point out that I was really torn between Teb's story and Rukaio's (and LightRunner too, very well written and engaging, but sadly the theme was just too faint in the story to beat these other two). Now I see if I'd voted for Teb instead, there would have been 5 seconds instead! Damn, what an even month!
I ended up favouring Rukaio's because there was more trepidation to the story. "Rounding Error" was very good, very well written, but too much like a nice, self contained chapter. Nothing dramatic happens to the MC, and it's pretty much "business as usual" for him, so I felt less compelling. I think maybe if the story had been told in the boy's pov instead, with that underdog approach who gets shot despite his best attempts at tempering the mobsters, it might have been the winner... But there is little else I can say in ways of critic. It was a very tough choice.
I totally get how we ended with things being as they are.

Nice job, everyone! And congrats @Nora and @Rukaio_Alter!

This month I voted for @Jmack, @ThiefofHope, and @LightRunner, though it was a hard choice. The way I see it, you can't go wrong with a crime caper involving squirrels (and a two-faced lady!)  I also chose The Shepherd because the worldbuilding felt really unusual (I liked that the default mount wasn't horses, and there were so many other interesting bits) and finally, I thought The Sanctimonious Saints was one of the best names for a crime group ever. It almost read like a fantasy version of The Handmaid's Tale?

I think this is the first time I've seen Thief in the contest (though I could be wrong?) so I hope to see more from them in the future.

Congrats, everyone! Really. What a really good month.
I voted for @Nora, @Elfy, and @Doctor_Chill.

I came so close to voting for Rukaio's and TEB's. The sheer bloody chaos of Golden Shamrock eked out the vote over the Princess. And I share Nora's POV on TEB's; really good writing and characters, but no real arc. I also want to call out NightWrite, who had interesting stuff and rich prose, but chopped off before 1,000 words when it needed a whole story arc behind it. Finally, as someone else said, ThiefofHope had a strong entry and we want more. @Feanor, props for putting it out there for the first time!
