@Brand J Alexander congrats on being first to submit, but let me advise you on something : have a look at past months, you'll see everyone tries to format in a more readable way. Jump spaces around dialogue, etc.
Your text is one big chunk, and I know I'll hate it when I'm reading the stories on my phone. Don't loose points over presentation!

Thank you very much for your suggestion. One thing I didn't consider was to go back and look at previous formats. Derp. Did so and went back and cleaned it up a little bit.

A few entries, usually by @Alex Hormann or @The Gem Cutter, but I always felt that despite how good they were, stories/prose always have the upper hand, for me.

I once made second place with a poem. Must've been in '13 or so. ;)

But yeah, it's usually insignificant. Maybe it's time for a poetry month? ;)

Free verse is not poetry and that is the hill I will die on.

I have written a few poetry entries over the years, and seen a few others too. For me, it's a good way to get ideas out when you don't have a plot or if you're really short on time. I don't believe a poem has ever got many votes though.

So, I'm going to give this month a try. Think I've got an idea but I reckon this is a hard one to flesh out into an actual story that doesn't just center on the mundane.

Not that I mind the topic at all (I'm sure there will be some really interesting reads), but I'd love to see a poll where we could vote on the month to come; maybe open the voting a few days before the contest begins.

Sorry, I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon - nobody would ever agree, there would always be people annoyed at the result, and there would be lots of discussion. We already have that without the poll, hehe, so xiagan and I will continue to think of stuff.

Always open to suggestions, of course, just not guaranteeing that they'll be used :)

Two nights and a lot of distractions later... Finished.

I thought it'd be harder to hit the word count than it was. Turns out 1500 isn't enough words to tell the story I wanted but reckon it turned out okay.

Perhaps you can create a suggestion thread and sticky it? Would help collate these suggestions.

My trend in writing has been everything goes down in flames no matter what anyone does. Just try to survive. Part of me wonders if there is some personal influence there.

Are the usual writers finishing up their stories?
We have only 4 submissions so far, mostly from newbies :)
