Like last July (a year already? Gosh!) we're going with our story generator again!

Note: Due to the forum's brokenness I'm neither able to make the child board I prepared for July visible to you, nor to create a new board. 

Rules:

1. This must be prose or poetry.
2. Go here: http://roll-dice-online.com/ Number of sides: 5; number of dice to roll: 7; number of rolls: as much as you need to find your perfect theme.
3. Prose must be 500-1500 words long.
4. Poetry must be 100-500 words long.
5. One story per person or writing team (not per account).
6. You will be disqualified if you exceed the limits, full stop. That's why they're called limits.
7. Your entry can't be published somewhere else before.
8. This is a writing contest, not a "I have written something like this ten years ago" contest. So if you happen to have a story that fits one of the themes, I'd like it to have a mayor overhaul/edit. Work for it.
9. Please add your story's word count and, if you have, your twitter handle.
10. Please put your story in [ spoiler ] tags to make the thread easier to handle. You can find them above the smileys next to the 'youtube' symbol.

If you want so submit your story anonymously you can do so by sending it in a personal message to @xiagan.

Entry will close August 31th/September 1st, 2017 and voting will begin somewhere around the same time too.

The winner will have their piece displayed on the main Fantasy Faction website sometime in the next months.
Submitting a story counts as published. The author retains all rights to their work.

Not sure if I see what you mean? If you can post one topic, nothing stops you from posting another instead? I thought we were seeing a generator again because the last one was popular, but I could be wrong. I'm just really not interested by the level of constraint this offers, so I'd like to know the occurrence we'll have. I was hoping it'd be a yearly thing like fanfiction.

Nothing to do with broken forum - and trust me, the forum mods are doing their absolute best, but they kinda hit a wall... I've tried helping a bit, let's see what it does.

I was confused too, at first, until I realised the grid is 7x5 not 7x6 (first column is just the categories).

Here are my three alternatives:

Epic, Thief, Church, Magic Dagger, Superstitious, Leprechaun, Dinosaurs
Paranormal Romance, Pirate, Church, Talking Sword, Too Trusting, Enchanted Animal, Massive Explosion

I'm torn on the subject. I don't mind the theme, but a part of me wishes the chart wasn't the same as last year's. Like a Chart A and Chart B, maybe a Chart C, since this could become a yearly thing.

We debated that and there will definitely be a new chart next year.
But there are so many possibilities that using it again shouldn't be a problem since it's not likely that you'll get the same parameters  (and if you do you can just roll again).

But it would have been nice to have a sci Fi version instead of the same high fantasy chart, that's true. It's part of what I don't like in it, it strongly forces your hand in fantasy. But it's also true that you could write 4 or 5 stories before you start really exhausting possibilities.
You can even add space- in front of stuff and try to pull it off. A space pirate in a space tavern!

Exactly! I don't see why it should limit you to high fantasy at all.

So clearly I love cliches because an embarrassingly large number of these elements are in my WIP series....

And my first roll of the dice pretty much *is* what I'd planned for the sequel to my current WIP.  Without the goat cheese, of course.  It's grimdark, it's about a greedy thief, there's an evil witch and an evil wizard, a lot of it centers around a scrying bowl that lets you see through other people's eyes (but you risk loosing your own mind by being overwhelmed by the entirety of their memories feeding into the present moment, and about half of it takes place on a boat. Frigging creepy... perhaps it's a sign from the universe that I should be focusing on my novel...  (or maybe a sign that my shit is unoriginal I don't care it's fun).
