Title: [Jul 2016] - Story Generator - Voting Thread
Post by: ScarletBea on August 02, 2016, 08:17:03 AM
It's time to vote on July's Writing Contest: Story Generator.

We got 13 entries this month, most on the very last days - as usual ;)
Thanks to all of you for participating!

Please read through all of the entries in the submission thread and place your votes for your three favourite entries in this thread. You won't be able to see the vote breakdown until the vote closes, so spread the word for others to come and vote! We do ask that if you entered, to vote for someone else.

The key for the numbers of votes is this: 1-5 entries: 1 vote, 5-10 entries: 2 votes, 11-15 entries: 3 votes, 16-19: 4 votes, 20-25: 5 votes, 26+: 6 votes

Remember that the winning entry will be posted on the main Fantasy-Faction site in a few months.

Good luck to all our entrants and thank you for taking the time to read the stories and vote! :)

I think this month wins for best titles alone.

Voted! (vacation will do that.)

Spoiler for @Lanko (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40739):
OMG. Just that. You totally rock.

So Lanko's gonna win again with a last minute entry isn't he?  ::)

Also slightly regretting putting two amounts of weird sex in mine...it just comes naturally to me I forget in the cold light of day that other people will read it who might not appreciate a two-headed genderless pirate and leprechaun sex.   :-\

Also voted. So much cake and pirates and thieves. And talking swords. But there were 3 that I clearly enjoyed the most above the others, so I went for them.

I sort of wish more talking swords had regular names, like Tim, or Steve, or Brian.

Hey it was a compliment!  :-*

I leaned towards the funnier ones this month, considering the topic, though yours was something special :P
Though it made me realise I have no understanding of Conan whatsoever, never seen or read any Conan  :-\ - and I've only read bits of Beyond Good and Evil - so idk how much you've read of his stuff.

Haha, thanks!

Also, about your weird sex scene, one of the things that gripped me into Mielville's Perdido Street Station was  a sex scene between a human and a female fly in the beginning. It was just too weird and I had to keep going, so don't bash yourself on that and worry too much about what people will think about X or Y. Who knows what awesome ideas you might throw out?

My votes are in!

And just because, I nominate this sentence from Arcane's story as the quote of the month:

Skip looked over the map and saw a cob-webbed skeleton. “My god! I think that man is dead!”

Awesome entries as always, everyone. Enjoyed the reads!

Nora was moving home I believe, but I'm actually surprised with @Rukaio_Alter (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40087) absence. And from the comments on the discussion thread, I was also expecting @Raptori (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=38840), @Saurus (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40290), @shadowkat678 (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=41140) and @SJBudd (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=31436).

But, but, I'm only being honourable. I mean, we do want to add some colour to the proceedings, but we shouldn't move even a centimeter closer to unadulterated self-interest, I'm sure. Tally-ho.

I take that back. How the hell am I supposed to choose just three? I think this month's stories are among the strongest I've read since I started following this contest.

Grr. This is going to be difficult. Very well done, everyone.

EDIT: Also wanted to add ... it's great to see so many new people participating this month, and even better than they've brought so many strong stories. I was able to pick three based on unique elements that appealed to me, personally, but honestly, I could have picked any of the others and been perfectly content.

Looking forward to the results!

This is great I can see result too, congratulations  Lanko  that was a top story and you got my vote. Also voted Anonymous and tebakutis so I finally chose all three at top. All good stories this month altogether, though.

Congratulations @Lanko (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40739), it seems being the last pays off ;)

This month sorry but I didn't vote for you: mine went to @tebakutis (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=31262), @ArcaneArtsVelho (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40090) and @m3mnoch (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40419) :)

Will we know the identity of our bronze medal winner? ;D

I voted for @Lanko (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40739), @tebakutis (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=31262), and @slywind (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=41402).
Congrats, Lanko! Is this two months in a row, or two out of three?
You have a twisty mind that makes unexpected associations. It's really cool.

Slywind, congrats on a strong showing in your first contest. Loved your story.

Eric. Yeah. The usual. Excellence. Yada yada.  ;)

Wow. Damn. Awesome. Great!

Thanks to everyone who liked it! And with so much good entries and the close dispute, it makes victory all the sweeter!

You know what, I wrote absolutely nothing this month, closing Scrivener as soon as I opened it... now I'm back in high spirits and who knows, maybe I will even submit something for the Potion contest! And yes, Bea, sometimes the last do indeed become the first!

This month I voted for Alex Hormann (grimdark needs more cakes), Anonymous (I know it's you, GRRM) and @ArcaneArtsVelho (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40090).

congrats @Lanko (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40739)!

while i didn't vote for you, i nearly did just for this one line alone:  "Let me know the rich juices of red meat and stinging wine on my palate on every meal, the hot embrace of a woman on every night, the mad exultation of battle when the blue blades flame and crimson, and I will ask for nothing more."

rawr!

oh, and i voted for anonymous, @tebakutis (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=31262), and @slywind (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=41402).

well done folks!

it was such a super-fun prompt.  makes me sad i didn't get to spend more time with it.  (oh, and thanks to my three voters!  i'm sorry the end was such a rush-and-jumbled-first-draft-mess.  and i had such high hopes for my idea too!)

Lanko! Nice job dude! *high five*

I also wanted to say (as others have) that I really enjoyed all the entries from the people who are participating for the first time. Your stories were great, and I hope to read more from you in the future. :)

Congratulations, @Lanko (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40739). I enjoyed your story very much. Everyone had good stories! I didn't get to write anything for the potions contest, but I plan to try my hand again for September. I struggle with anything sub-novella length (and also struggle with anything novella and novel length) so this is fun practice.

Heyyy I called it! I didn't even have to read the story, as soon as I saw the title I knew @Lanko (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40739) would win. Congrats sir!  8)

I voted for @night_wrtr (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40254) @m3mnoch (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40419) and Anonymous.

Anonymous was probably my favourite. My prediction is they're actually Mr. Robot.

Although I voted for Lanko, Sam Bowring and Slywind, I enjoyed everyone's entry.
