Another more important thing:
With the new options we now can see who voted for what (thanks for finding out, @Eclipse).

i don't understand.  i can't see who voted for what.  not even when i'm signed out.  or am i looking at the wrong thing?
Only after vote ends.

Yep, I agree too. Should be private.
I didn't know what that option was when I set this poll.
Neither did I. :)

Happy to vote again if Mods would like to reset the Fanfic poll back to normal.

Okay, there's a shiny, new poll there now. Please vote (again)!

I won't message the people who voted already to do so again because I think most saw it. I'll check in a week again and if some of the old voters haven't voted until then, I'll remind them.

If you already voted but forgot for what story, ask, and I shall provide the details of your vote. ;)

Re-voted and changed one.

My favorite was easy.
Then I really struggle between two fantastic second-place contenders.
May change my mind again.........

Voted!

I wonder how much the votes this month will be influenced by what the voters have and haven't read.

Agreed. I tried to put aside whether I knew the story and just decide if this story and characters came through. But still, there's that fan-service pleasure from seeing what's done wth the things you've enjoyed reading.

It might backfire, though. If you haven't read the original there's less chance of you being annoyed at what was done to the characters ;D

I think there's a few categories of reaction:

1.) You've read the original, the fan fiction writer captured the characters well, and you had fun with it

2.) You've read the original, the fan fiction writer did not capture the characters well, and you're annoyed with it

3.) You haven't read the original, the fan fiction writer wrote a story as independent of all of the world-building done in the original as possible, and you enjoyed the story in its own right.

4.) You haven't read the original, the fan fiction writer wrote a story heavily dependent on background knowledge obtained from the original, and you did not understand what was going on.

I think it is very difficult to write something that falls into category 3, especially if you're taking the setting from a massive saga and writing a 1500 word short story.
