And there is hardly any room to develop character, or their specifics, and build the story at the same time.
Usually the characters are already developed and established, which should make it easy to write.
If you want people who haven't read the books it's based on to understand everything it's a lot harder of course...

Of course but then how am I to appreciate everyone's work? I have no background on any of the characters used in the posted stories so far... Besides tomb raider which gives me vague ideas - if it's based on the video game, which I played back when I was 12 an it was a lump of pixels.
I tried to make my story accessible but the MC uses complex magic, if people haven't read the work it might be confusing.
Sorry I'm only being grumpy with the theme.

Anyway my sub is in, in all its convoluted, disrespectful glory!

Yeah, the Tomb Raider franchise has come a long way since the first game on PC, back in the day. After the franchise published a couple of poor quality games and dried up, Square Enix got the license and rebooted it in a totally awesome way, by showing us Lara's first real adventure and then building her up into a more experienced adventurer from there. Kind of like a Young Indiana Jones thing, but with an early 20s Lara at the start of her character arc.

I'm a huge fan of the rebooted games, both the first one (simply titled Tomb Raider) and the more recent sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider. Squeenix simultaneously did a good job of making the character fresh and interesting, as well as more "human" than the prior, established version. Much of this is due to the excellent writing team led by Rhianna Pratchet ... I was just reading an article about her here, as well as the increasingly common integration of professional writers in game development.

Also, for those who don't have any background on my characters, specifically, here's some videos that also, coincidentally, showcase how far games have come since the pixelated days. :)

I'll let you know that I enjoyed it, Mr J. It was something different and I appreciated that. Nothing wrong with a bit of silliness to alleviate the serious darkness that the genre is so fond of.
I will expand your TBR pile.

i've got a day or two left finishing up these other stories, then i should be able to crank something out for this month.  i've got a streak going, so i'd hate to break it.

I might not have the time to write my story (even with the smaller word count limit of a poem). I'm going to be quite busy for at least the next couple of days, and I haven't even read most of last month's stories.

Well, we'll see, I guess. No one is allowed to get their hopes up, though.  :P ;D
Everything I wrote above is pure conjecture. I don't know what I'm talking about.

I'm a perfectionist but not very good at anything. That's why I rarely finish things.

I have been really struggling with this one in terms of interest, story and time. @Rostum has been good enough to agree to give some advice on weaponry and such, but I may not even get to that.

The idea of missing makes me cringe, but I don't know where I'm getting this time.

Hmpf ???
This club can only be allowed to exist, say, twice a year tops! If you miss more than twice a year I'll get xia to remove your 'regular' title.

erm... it seems Lady Ty was right about the nagging ;D
