[Dec 2017] - Alien/Eldritch Artifact - Voting Thread
« on: January 04, 2018, 11:52:52 AM »
It's time to vote on the December Writing Contest: Alien/Eldritch Artifact!

We got just 7 entries this month - thanks to all who participated, your odds are good ;)

Please read through all of the entries in the submission thread and place your votes for your two favourite entries in this thread. You won't be able to see the vote breakdown until the vote closes, so spread the word for others to come and vote! We do ask that if you entered, to vote for someone else.

The key for the numbers of votes is this: 1-5 entries: 1 vote, 5-10 entries: 2 votes, 11-15 entries: 3 votes, 16-19: 4 votes, 20-25: 5 votes, 26+: 6 votes

Remember that the winning entry will be posted on the main Fantasy-Faction site in a few months.

Good luck to all our entrants and thank you for taking the time to read the stories and vote! :)

I have also voted. Lots of really interesting ideas, I feel I should of thought about mine for longer after reading some of those.

No, I'd say what would be best is for you to imitate the better compartimented format of others. Your story is all in blocks with no space and no breaks and that makes it hard and uncomfortable to read on an otherwise good story.

to imitate
= to copy ;)

(in portuguese, and I assume french, that's a valid word, but not in english, hehe) - sorry! actually, I checked and it seems it's a valid word, but hardly ever used ???

And @Venandiaer, I can add spaces between the paragraphs, if you'd like me to.

Sure, If you, ScarletBea, think that would make it easier for people to read, that would be appreciated.

I did it :)
And yes, much easier to read - there's an old member* who used to create a ereader version of the stories each month, to make it easier to read around, but now reading on screen, when it's a huge block of text, makes things harder :-\

(I'm looking at you, @m3mnoch - we miss your story packs too ;) )

“Imitate” is perfectly fine word and fits here, though it does have the implication of being unoriginal (in one sense) or mocking (in another).

I think that “model” is great for this meaning, but it’s a bit obscure for some folks.*

Voted.

But am now terrified of horrendous possibilities. Afraid to go to bed as not sure what to expect when I wake up.

Not one of you managed to cook up a happy happy la la land fun artefact. Shame. Shame.  Shame.

Oh thanks for clarifying! I know that the English language usually has both a Latin and an anglo- Saxon word for the same thing, but most of the Latin words aren't that much used...

It's always interesting to me the way English makes verbs of nouns, then makes a noun of that verb, and so on. Model and copy - which came first? The thing or the act of making / using the thing? Or perhaps the original term was always both.
