DRAGONS

Dragon by Chevsy

After last month's theme seemed like a punishment detail to some of you and because Christmas is coming, we decided to give you a treat. Something you will want to write about even with all the holiday action around you. Something grand. Something terrifying. Creatures you complained about being not depicted as they should be. A chance to exactly do this. Write about Dragons. Absolve yourself and picture them as the menacing, intelligent, magical, godlike terrors they are. Or not. It's - as always - up to you. :)

Rules:

1. This must be prose or poetry.
2. Must contain one or more dragons of any flavour you like. They should be crucial to the story. A dragon always influences the world around it.
3. Prose must be 500-1500 words long.
4. Poetry must be 100-750 words long.
5. One story per person or writing team (not per account).
6. You will be disqualified if you exceed the limits, full stop. That's why they're called limits.
7. Your entry can't be published somewhere else before.
8. This is a writing contest, not a "I have written something like this ten years ago" contest. So if you happen to have a story that fits one of the themes, I'd like it to have a mayor overhaul/edit. Work for it. ;)
9. Please add your story's word count and, if you have, your twitter handle.
10. Please put your story in [ spoiler ] tags to make the thread easier to handle. :) You can find them above the smileys next to the 'youtube' symbol.

If you want so submit your story anonymous you can do so by sending it in a personal message to @xiagan.

Entry will close Dec 31th 2016/Jan 1st, 2017 and voting will begin somewhere around the same time too.

All members are eligible to join. If you are not a member you can join here. Sign up is free and all are welcome! :)

The winner will have their piece displayed on the main Fantasy Faction website sometime in the next months.

Please post your entry here.

Note: This thread is only for questions or discussing this month's writing contest. Good luck!

Wow! It really is Christmas!

Now, do I use that idea I had planned for the Guns and Dragons anthology or do I save it and come up with something new? Decisions decisions...

Whaaaaat! After all the months I was begging for them to come, and now here they are, right when I'm in the mood for crime or vampires!

Omg anyway, going to binge through my pinterest folder until the spark lights.

Can't believe this is happening.

Now to go find some super obscure variation of dragon to inspire my story...

Quote from: http://malazan.wikia.com/wiki/Korabas
Korabas, the Otataral Dragon, was the largest among the Eleint. She was also known as the 'Eye of Abnegation', the storm's centre where the stillness of matter becomes absolute. She was Otataral aspected (Otataral was a magic-deadening reddish ore. It not only prevented the use of magic, it also prevented mages from accessing or opening their Warrens and could drive them insane), and caused all life around her to die instantly. Once freed, the baring of an item made of Otataral would summon her to its location.

I might vote in this one, looking forward to reading some dragons!

Even though I've already posted this picture in another thread I can't help but post it again here. I wonder why ;).

Mmmh, I've got a bit of an idea blooming, writing about a vet specialising in dragons, but not a lot of story detail so far.

The cheese hoard is fab, very french, but that must be one hell of a smelly dragon.

I already have about 500 words in my story, it's third person past tense so far, for a change. I've even written a joke. I must be sick.

As a sort of ludicrous personal challenge, I'll try to make it so that I write the story with the largest amount of breeds of Dragons mentioned. Haha.

@Lady_Ty you better submit! No excuses this month!!

Edit : Back to first person. Man, you actually save SO MANY WORDS by using "I" instead of the various ways you can call your MC.
