Title: [DEC 2015] - Young Love - Voting Thread
Post by: ScarletBea on January 04, 2016, 11:54:41 AM
It's time to vote on December's Writing Contest: Young Love

We got 13 entries this month.

Thanks to all of you for participating - we've been having quite a lot of entries this year, and even in the months where it seems there will be less, you come up with the goods at the last minute :D
It was a wonderful year for the Contest!!

Please read through all of the entries in the submission thread and place your votes for your three favourite entries in this thread. You won't be able to see the vote breakdown until the vote closes, so spread the word for others to come and vote! We do ask that if you entered, to vote for someone else.

The key for the numbers of votes is this: 1-5 entries: 1 vote, 5-10 entries: 2 votes, 11-15 entries: 3 votes, 16-19: 4 votes, 20-25: 5 votes, 26+: 6 votes

Remember that the winning entry will be posted on the main Fantasy-Faction site in a few months.

Good luck to all our entrants and thank you for taking the time to read the stories and vote! :)

Read them all on the drive down from Maine the other day. (Not while I was doing the driving. I may be stupid, but...)
VOTED!

Voted! I read them as people posted them so I wouldn't have tons of stuff to read at once. There were two that really stood out to me. Choosing the third was a little harder.

Also voted! Again, so much quality work. Ultimately, it always comes down to subjective personal taste.

It seems this poll decidd to change out of its own accord >:(
At the moment I can't go back and select 'only show votes after the poll expires', which is what I created in the first place!

Pesky AIs. (The self-determination programming inserted by Atku is showing up earlier than I expected.)
But hey, a little variety now again ain't so bad?

erm.  i don't know how much "we" it is.  i kinda just started compiling them without asking anyone's permission.  no one has seemed to mind so far.

but, yeah, i'd love for it to be more of an official "we" thing -- that'd be sweet!

Voted as well.
Was a weird month this time. I think a lot of stories didn't really fit what I'd hoped for, going for darker and sadder.
Don't throw me tomatoes, I didn't give a happy ending to my own people either.

@ScarletBea (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=32020), we used to have an option to change our vote. Please could it come back?
Not because I want to change what is registered but because for some reason only 2 out of my 3 are showing. If the option is back I can go in and make sure my 3rd vote is there.

I'm pretty sure I set that option up when I created the thread, but my mod powers are waning, I can't really do anything anymore except click on 'edit poll' and see the current results (that button doesn't actually let me edit the poll anyway ::))
@xiagan (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1148), help Lady Ty?

Not very helpful, but letting you know you're not alone. I don't want to change my poll result, but if I wanted to I couldn't either.

Thank you, all well and my three votes accepted. Great excuse to sit and read all afternoon. Had the similar problem to m3m, but for me five favourites and just three votes. Congratulations to all for great selection overall on what can be a hard subject to handle.

One week left to vote!!

I'm still reading, and so far I've read lovely romantic stories, amazing stories that unfortunately in my opinion don't really focus on the theme, and a really 'awful' story but quite well written (sorry Henry, but that is absolutely creepy!)
Glad to continue, you guys are fab! :D

Yup, wanted to set myself apart from the young love theme. Hope you managed to sleep at night. There was a warning in my post though.

Now there are 2 stories tied on top, then 1 story 1 point behind, then 3 stories another 1 point behind!

Edit: I forgot to say how I loved that around half the stories had same-sex or different species love :)

How many votes have we got now Bea?

As far as my own story is concerned, what I love is that I still haven't made up my mind about my character's genders. Don't know if it's guys, girls, or one of each, and then who's what. I managed to create gender-mysterious characters for myself, which is a first.  :P

That's what I did... For once I used only two votes, because I had too many tied in third place and none that were as impressive as my first two, so... Now I'm sort of wondering what to do, since I hear there is such a crazy tie.

It wouldn't be fair to the other three.
They all deserve the vote, but none of them deserve it more than the others.  ???

Why would it matter to be a tie? There have been double winners before, because when we voted for Best of 2014 there were two each in Jan 2014 and Dec 2014

We've had ties before, yes, but not 3-way ;D

And I'm annoyed SugoiMe's story didn't have any votes, I really enjoyed it. If I knew it, I'd have voted for her, there were a few candidates for my votes.

I voted for RA, Nora and m3mnoch :)

Elfy, yours was soooo creepy! I have a thing about weird dolls, and that brought all my fears to life, hehe
Title: Re: [DEC 2015] - Young Love - Voting Thread
Post by: Nora on February 01, 2016, 12:49:48 PM
Wow! How weird is this month! Sharing third place and behind 5 people!! What an over crowded podium.

Yeah, Sugoi's story was nice, I just didn't consider it for vote because it didn't seem to fit the "young" part of the love. Didn't make it a bad story at all though, just a little bit too off from the topic.

I think it was a hard month. The real problem really was the "young" part of Young Love.

My own votes went to @tebakutis (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=31262) and @Unsummonable Henry Dale.

I found Henry's story to not really fit the topic and yet totally fit it, in a gross way. It's a young, short and violent one sided love but it is young, and it is probably the only thing the character knows of love. When I first read it I thought "well that was creepy but good but I surely won't vote for that.." but then read every one and felt that if I only had three votes, then it had to be in my selection.
Separating thirds was just too hard this month!

Congrats to everyone for weathering that topic, and Rukaio and Jmack for your 3-way victory!

^ Funny you say that, Nora, because I didn't vote for Jmack even though I loved the story/setting just because I felt that the 'young love' theme was just secondarily addressed.

Grats you three!
I voted for jmack, elfy and m3mnoch this time around.
So only jmack's squirrels were among the victors for mine.

It was a really strange month this one and I have no clue yet what next month's stories will be, but with 4th wall as a topic it'll allow for odd stuff.

Meanwhile I have an idea for fanfic. I just need to decide on characters.

And hopefully the critique thread won't be neglected! I'm open for exchanging shots at peoples' work.

Wow, that's awesome, thank you folks! I've always wanted to be involved in a three-way with @Jmack (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=37094) and @Rukaio_Alter (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40087), so having that opportunity ... no wait a moment, that came out wrong. What I really meant was, the idea of a three-way with Jmack and Rukaio always has ... dammit, that's not what I meant, uh...

What was that about "young love"? Forgot I said anything!

he who must not be summoned, Henry Dale
My plans to overthrow the wizarding world will come as a shock  :)

Fittingly I also crossed a thousand posts recently and am now an auror.

And congrats, Henry!! Do you want a special thread on the General room? :D

Ohmygawd, I hadn't noticed! Argh I want to be red! :'(

Edit: I just asked for help on the Bugs thread and there I'm ok.
It seems to be only on this section, where I'm a Mod but can't really do Mod stuff except lock threads and modify other people's posts :(

You can send the cake to my tropical kitty island off the coast of Belgarium. There isn't need for a whole thread  :P

Everybody was complaining when xia first posted, but then all the stories were great, for me - just a very small number under par, mainly due to the writing.
You're all romantics deep down ;) (except Henry and Elfy hehe)

I voted for Rukaio, jmack and elfy, so that's two out of the three. Rukaio's made me lol (like, literally lol in rl), jmack's squirrel library was the best (you have GOT to make a novel out of that) and elfy's freaked me out so much I nearly had nightmares.

Well done everyone and congrats to those winners!

Congrats everybody!

I wanted to break the tie but couldn't decide on which story deserved the win. ;)

Wow. Who would've thought that a competition about Young Love would end in a threesome? ...Erm, I mean, who would've thought that myself, tebakutis and Jmack would end up in such a compromising position? Erm, I mean- Sorry, what's that? Tebakutis already made a bunch of innuendo jokes? Well, I guess the more the merrier.  :P

Seriously though, congrats to my fellow victors. I suppose we shall have to share the title of GOD EMPEROR OF THE WRITING CONTEST!!! this month. Also, credit to Jmack for refusing to simply lie down and let me take the Writing Contest record. But it shall be mine sooner or later and then the entire forum shall bow before me! Mwahahaha!! ...Or, you know, I might boast about it a little. Probably just the latter.

Also, it's pretty funny that this is the second time I've won two contests in a row (even if this one was a draw). Will I finally be able to break that pattern in January and make it three in a row? I was pretty happy with my Jan entry, but there are a number of very good opposing stories as well. Oh well, I guess we'll have to see.

Also, are we planning on doing a 'Best Story of 2015' vote like last year? I'd be interested to see that.

What's wrong with that? I was merely hoping I might catch Jmack with his pants down and give him a severe thrashing in the writing contest. Can't a man talk about giving his rival a hard one from behind without it being misconstrued in some way?

He is just trying to say he wants to be included in it  ::)

All three of you, together, with plenty of bunnies (or should I say squirrels) in the room.

Congratulations to the winners of our 1st three way tie. To everyone who has said my entry was creepy, whether you voted for my story or not, I'm saying thank you, because that's what I was going for. Although I do apologise for giving people nightmares. The topic was really hard to hit and I think some stories struggled with that, although I wound up doing young love, I approached the story more as first love.

Wow. Busy day for me, finally getting to read all this. So congrats, Tebakutis and RA! I guess we're just taking turns on top... of the contest, you dirt brains.  ;)

I voted to Tebakutis and m3mnoch this month. This the first time I ever held back in the full votes, and reflected how much I liked these two stories rather than any weakness in the others.

Thanks to folks who liked my squirrels! I had another story idea that was much more about young love, but the squirrels were too much fun to pass up. And I'm spending a lot of time with Penelope, Alexander, and the squirrels these days. It's my one goal this year to complete a draft of their book.

That's great having a three way tie, huge congrats to Rukaio, Jmack and tebakutis, all great stories and I will give my reasons for  not voting as they were so hard to walk past. My reasons may not seem logical, but choosing a story is often just personal reaction.

@Jmack (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=37094), Love the squirrels and the great library, and very glad we will see much more one day,but got caught up in that part of story. The shy young love was delightful, but a little too subtle here so was lost as the theme.

@Rukaio_Alter (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40087) I have often voted for you in past because I love your sense of humour, and adore stories that make me LOL, but this time your success worked in reverse. I thought, RA's almost sure to get lots of votes  so I'll look at others to give a vote for theme I liked, not just the fun.

@tebakutis (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=31262) Great story and good love theme content, but entirely a  personal reason -  too much space techie content for me.

My votes went to @Nora (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40237), @TOMunro (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=31792), and @ArcaneArtsVelho (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40090) (and not cos you got to Auror AAV, you weren't there when I voted). Sorry got you mixed up with That Thief - meant your happy Forum Birthday celebration;D
I liked all your stories very much, thank you, and I'll tell you why later in the crit thread.

@Elfy (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1153) - great story but definitely too creepy for me as well, so you succeeded in your aim. ;)
