Title: [Apr 2015] - Plot twists - Voting Thread
Post by: xiagan on May 01, 2015, 06:41:03 PM
It's finally time to vote on April's Writing Contest: Plot Twists (maybe with Vamipres, Werewolves, Girls and/or Goats)

And we have 17 entries again! :)
Now if we get the same amount of voters (23 for Rogues so far) again, that'd be great.
Thanks for taking part, all of you. It's a great feeling to decide on a theme and get people write stories about it. (Next month's theme is about what a great guy I am and why people should give me lots of money.  ;D)

Please read through all of the entries in the submission thread (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/%28apr-2015%29-wvg/%28apr-2015%29-werewolf-vampire-girl-submission-thread/) and place your votes for your four favorite entries in this thread. You won't be able to see the vote breakdown until the vote closes, so spread the word for others to come and vote! We do ask that if you entered, to vote for someone else.

The key for the numbers of votes is this: 1-5 entries: 1 vote, 5-10 entries: 2 votes, 11-15 entries: 3 votes, 16-19: 4 votes, 20+: 5 votes

Remember that the winning entry will be posted on the main Fantasy-Faction site in a few months.

Good luck to all our entrants and thank you for taking the time to read the stories and vote! :)

@xiagan (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1148) any chance you could put both of our usernames there now that @Saurus (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40290) has her own account? Feels a bit weird to only have my name there when we're both here now... What better way to prove you're a great guy who deserves to be given money?  :)

Oh, wait. Your title was Good Goat. Look here:
Here is my April story. 1,500 words exactly, not counting the title, which is:

Voted for my 3 favourites. In fourth for me two stories came equally and I could not make up my mind, but because they were very well written but did not manage to surprise me, I decided to offer detailed critiques when this comes out. Of all those stories the one that surprised me the most is @Raptori (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=38840) 's. You guys rock, it's the second time I really enjoy your submission, and the second time it's heavily twisted, too.

That's great, I was worried it wouldn't be enough of a twist to fit the theme to be honest! Glad you enjoyed it again, we shall try to keep it up next month. :D

Ah, but this way you're not influenced in the way you vote. If for example you were undecided between 2 stories, you could check and might vote for the one which currently has more votes (or less, depending if you're an 'underdog' kind of person, hehe)

And how could it be 6am, I thought you were 2 hours ahead of me? There's no half-hour time zone in Finland, is there??

No, there is no half-hour time zone in Finland. I think he was exaggerating/rounding up for emphasis or just being vague for no apparent reason.  :)

Not if you could only see the votes after you have voted, also assuming there was some way of locking votes in so you can't change them.  :P

I was typing on my iPad, couldn't be bothered going through the hassle of switching keyboards and stuff so I rounded to the nearest hour...  ;)

Pretty good so far then! What's the gap between first and second? It usually seems to be pretty close, should be the same this time, no?

It makes me so sad to have to be asleep when the voting comes out. Such frustration each time! I'm looking forward to the critiques of this one as I can easily hand them out to everyone. Still need to dedicate some time to rogue critiques too! T_T

The worst is that my brains knows it'll be up tomorrow early so I know I'm gonna wake up at 7 or 8 am and grab my phone and then I'll read everyone's comments and I'll be bloody awake!

Still 1 hour to go...

And by the way, @xiagan (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1148): if you make the results come around 1-2pm UK time, then I think that everyone in the key time zones will be awake (US, Europe and Australia).
And Nora will be happy ;D

That's when we set up meetings with US/UK/China/India people at work, at UK lunchtime.

Good Dog by Jmack
The Skinner by ArcaneArtsVelho

I just want to say I found Jmack story really creepy reminded me of Ravenloft short stories

Whoaaaa.... 3rd equal with Jmack and Carter? I did not see that one coming. Thanks everyone for your votes! I'm glad the horror didn't put y'all off!

I'm happy for Rukaio and D_Bates. It's good work! David's story was definitely a quality twist. Votes for you two and Jmack's and Raptori's.
I'm rather surprised though at Saurus and Raptori's result, to me it was the biggest surprise as a twist, but I can also see how it could be hard to capture everyone's interest with a race!

Anyway, shall have fun with critics today! Will we have a critic thread?

Oh yeah, two in a row baby! And I'm not even a writing contest regular yet, (although I should become one with my entry to this month's contest). I'm kinda curious to see if I can go three for three now (although May was a very strong month this time around so I won't be too surprised if I lose). But whatever happens, I shall appreciate my victory here and accept my new self-appointed title of GOD EMPEROR OF THE WRITING CONTEST!!!

What? I told you this stuff would go to my head.

(Seriously though, big thanks to everyone who voted and not just the people who voted for me. Let's try and make this next month a great one too)

Late with the congrats, God Emperor @Rukaio Alter, but very impressed. I loved your story, but Oggs would have sent you to bed with no dinner for that extremely unoriginal twist.  ;) You got my vote for sheer audacity and wonderful humour. ;D  ;D

@Elfy (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1153) that was pretty dark from you but I enjoyed it very much and really appreciated that clever little extra twist whereby you brought The Brothers Grimm into their own tale - loved that.  Plot Bunny did good. :D

@Jmack (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=37094) and @Nora (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=40237) - both so very dark and both so terrifyingly clever with terrible twists. I generally avoid horror for horror's sake fiction, but your stories were anything but that. What lurked behind both came through strong and clear and I am so impressed. Thanks, both of you.

:-[ I'm afraid that Jmack had to explain that one to me - in my defence I have to say that my copy of the full Grimm stories doesn't mention their first names, it only has "Brothers Grimm" on the cover.

And another :-[, I still don't know what Raptori/Saurus's twist was, it just looks like a really great dragon story with no twist.

Sorry both/three people!!

The twist is we're to think the dragons are flying through the sky, when in fact they're swimming through water. Then they leap into the sky to attack the fishing ship that's hunting them. I loved it!

Yeah, that Star Wars scene and a section of one of the Ketty Jay books (a fighter plane race) were in mind while we were writing it, I guess it's pretty understandable for that to come across so strongly.  Good that you enjoyed it even without the twist, I guess!  :P
