May I say that the current picture offends my eyes. I miss the pretty girl being bitten.

Ok so.... Just a question here... I'm in the middle of writing my short story for this, and it's not like the previous one, easy flowing and written in a day. So before I spend too much time torturing my brains out, I might as well inquire:
Just how much gross stuff is allowed? As in real, downright gross, not just gory stuff and foul mouthed villains taking it out.
I will reduce the impact by keeping it a bit abstract or maybe dilute the story for this submission, but are there themes that are outright forbidden? Or can I just submit it with a warning?

Probably one for Xi, but I'll have a go. As long as it's not genuinely offensive (i.e: pornographic) and it all fits in the story I don't think we'd have an issue with it. We're all adults here. Maybe just put a warning that it contains that sort of stuff.
I will expand your TBR pile.

Ok that's a thing though. Can a rape happen and be described to an extent (so we realise what's happening) without qualifying as pornographic? Maybe I'll just water it down a bit just to stay safe, it's a pretty vicious twist I'm planning out...  ::)

Dammit, I have two ideas again. 8)
Humph. Still got nothing.

Though admittedly we haven't spent any time trying to think of anything, which can of course be a slight issue...

I'll go with Elfy on this.
Put it in.
State the disclaimer.
I didn't write a very gentle one this month, either.

Haha!!

My original plot included rape, incest and bestiality.  ;D
I still might water it down a little bit.  :o  But I'm glad to hear I'm not alone on the slippery slope of gruesome this month. I'll read all the new submissions as soon as I'm done writing! Can't wait, there are already so many!

Considering last month we had a blood eagle, multiple knifings and a kissing leprechaun, I'd guess that should probably fly as long as it's kept within the realms of good taste.

On a less rapey note, I've just come up with a fantastic idea for my story this month. I don't want to spoil it too much, but I basically make the fourth wall my bitch.

(In hindsight, that probably was a bit spoilery actually. And it didn't exactly help make things less rapey...... I should probably stop typing now and go to bed before I dig myself even deeper.)

Whoaaaa!! Can't believe I just posted my story. It's half past midnight and I've been working on wrapping it up for a few hours. It's been wrecking my brain ever since I decided to write it and I'm so utterly relieved that it's done... Unlike my rogue story that came out of my head in a day, this has been taking me days and countless rewriting.
I'm too inexperienced a writer to know really if such contrast is common. I guess it's often different as you force yourself into topics you'd never have chosen without the contest?
I haven't picked up any new book or seen any movie beyond the GoT first two episodes, I was so engrossed. Urk, I'm glad it's out. I'll probably edit the hell out of my ending by tomorrow breakfast time.  :P

I'm feeling pleased with my so called "watering down". It was an exercise in itself to try and avoid too explicit connotations.

I'm now free to go and read y'all!!! Yay!

Writing can be very different, sometimes it flows, sometimes it needs to get wrestled. So yeah, maybe you got the two extremes now and will know that it can be all in between. :)

I'm okay with any content as long as there is a warning for people who have issues with sex, violence, blasphemy or goats.

Really liking Giddler's submission there. Great dialogue. Got a touch confused about who was who, but had a great sense of the weird, cider sipping bunch of fringy weirdos who aren't really that weird.

Hmmm. I haven't read them yet, don't want any contamination... but it's hard trying to come up with a story specifically to write a twist. Very easy to stray into cliché I think.  :-\

Yeah. Also, as a reader, when you know there is a twist coming is very hard for a writer to completely blindside you without going all Deus Ex Machina on yo ass. Especially in a short story.

Yes, let's please keep the spoilers off this thread :(
This is mostly for 'discussion of the subject', not 'discussion of the stories' - that will come later on the Critique thread, once the month is finished/submissions closed.
