New Gas-Lit Empire Series & Give Away!

Many Fantasy-Faction readers would have heard about Rod Duncan’s Gas-Lit Empire series. The first novel, The Bullet-Catcher’s Daughter, was shortlisted for the Phillip K. Dick award back in 2014. For those unfamiliar, Duncan’s novels are fast-paced and set within a steampunky alternative history.

The new series will be entitled ‘The Map of Unknown Things’ and the first novel is called The Queen of All Crows (expect an awesome cover!). Here’s the synopsis:

Only one woman can stop the world from descending into endless war.

The year is 2012. The nations of the world are bound together in an alliance of collective security, overseen by the International Patent Office.

When airships start disappearing in the middle of the Atlantic, the Patent Office is desperate to discover what has happened. Forbidden to operate beyond the territorial waters of member nations, they send spies to investigate in secret.

One of those spies is Elizabeth Barnabus. She must overcome her dislike of the controlling Patent Office, disguise herself as a man, and take to the sea in search of the floating nation of pirates who threaten the world order.

The novel will be released in the UK exactly one year from today (5th January 2018) and the USA, the lucky so-and-sos, get the book a few days earlier on 3rd January 2018. You know what that means? You’ve got a year to catch up or plan your re-reads 🙂

  1. I really enjoy steampunk, and this series looks great, I’d love to be the winner!
And the covers are amazing, how come I’ve never seen them in the shops before?

  2. I just stumbled into gaslight fantasy recently, and it has completely consumed me. I have always had a love of the Victorian era. So much so that I am currently writing a novel with this setting. I would love to read these. The beast needs to be fed!

  3. I’ve only ever read Custodian of Marvels but I know I need to read the ones. This is such a great world!

  4. Love the covers, love AR, haven’t gotten around to this series yet, unfortunately. Winning would be a great motivation 🙂

  5. These novels are an absolute delight, and I’m really looking forward to reading the first instalment of the second trilogy.

  6. I have not yet read the first trilogy, but from what I know, Elizabeth is an amazingly brave and strong female character and I very much look forward to reading the fist trilogy and following that, the following trilogy in the series. Fantastic success, Rod Duncan. Brilliant achievement to have completed the first trilogy int he series. Congratulation and really good luck with your forthcoming publications, continuing the series! xxxxx

  7. My favourite genre, set in my city, what’s not to like? If I don’t win free books, I’ll sure as anything buy themselves! Thanks Rod. You may not be a Woolback like me, but I think you should be an honorary one for all the pleasure I’ve had reading your books.

  8. Why is the robot angry? This implies more than annoyed, maybe rashly so. Can’t be anything to do with Maddie Ashby surely?

  9. If it’s not too late and if living in Germany isn’t a problem, I’d love to read those books! They sound very promising. 🙂

  10. Oh that’s so exciting! I’ve only read The Bullet-Catcher’s Daughter yet so I really need to get on reading the rest of the books, too.
