The Month Ahead: Fantasy Book Releases in May

FF-FacepalmYou know when you’re sat on a train or wandering around the park and you walk past someone reading ‘that book’ you’ve been really excited about? You do a double-take before glaring at them in shock and anger: how do they have ‘that book’ when it’s not even out yet!? Finally it dawns on you. With that pesky thing called real-life on your mind, you’d totally forgotten that the release date of ‘that book’ was last month! You’d totally forgotten about it….

Well, no more! From now on: Fantasy-Faction’s got your back.

Each month, around the 21st, we’ll be running a feature called “The Month Ahead” where we’ll be listing as many fantasy upcoming fantasy books as we can (and a few Horror / Sci-Fi titles we are excited about too). We’ll give preference to new releases, but will also try to list re-releases of paperbacks (e.g. first time paperback release of novels that were released in hardback the year before and Masterwork editions, etc).

We hope you enjoy it and if we miss anything then please add them to the comments section below!

  1. 7 books on there that I know with certainty that I want to read, only 3 of which I have. And there’s at least another good handful of books that I hadn’t heard much about before now but that look interesting and are probably worth checking out.

This is why I need a Time Turner. Read for an hour, turn the clock back, read for another hour. Rinse and repeat. Plenty of time to get everything read before I die after all! :p

  2. Are some of these paperback releases? As I saw from the above reply, a couple are new covers, but it seems to me that some have been out for quite some time….
I’ve been looking forward to ‘Uprooted’, but as usual with your great posts, I have new titles/series to research!
    Thanks!

    1. Yeah 🙂 As I say in the intro: “We’ll give preference to new releases, but will also try to list re-releases of paperbacks (e.g. first time paperback release of novels that were released in hardback the year before and Masterwork editions, etc).”

Some people can’t afford the hardback editions, so the MMP editions are the first time they are realistically going to get their hands on them. I might change that in the future, but for now I like to have it on there ^_^

      I’m excited about uprooted too!

  3. Here are some more, including ebook-only releases (which you seem to ignore:

Bulls Rush In [April 28] by Elliott James (this is an ebook short story)

The Vorrh [April 28 in the US; May 5 in the UK] by Brian Catling (this is a re-release)

The Shattered Court: A Novel of the Four Arts [April 28] by M.J. Scott

Three Slices [May 5] by Kevin Hearne, Delilah S. Dawson, and Chuck Wendig (ebook only; short story collection)

Talking Dirty [May 19 in US; I couldn’t find a UK release date] by Elliott James (this is an ebook short story)

Devil in the Wires [May 19] by Tim Lees (ebook only)

When the Heavens Fall [May 19] by Marc Turner

The Shadow of Elysium [May 19 in US; I couldn’t find a UK release date] by Django Wexler (this is an ebook short story)

Veiled Empire [May 26] by Nathan Garrison

Also, the following now have a US release, having already been released elsewhere:

Goddess of Buttercups and Daisies [May 1] by Martin Millar

Sword of the North [May 5] by Luke Scull

  4. I’m excited to read The Book of Phoenix by Nnedi Okorafor and a Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas.
