Fantastic Four trailer released!

This’ll be a quick post, but because we featured it on our most anticipated movies of 2015 list, we thought we should let you know that the first trailer for the Fantastic Four reboot has been released!

The reason we’re excited about this reboot is because we can’t believe Fox would press ahead with a Fantastic Four film they weren’t feeling fairly confident about. Many people felt cheated by the original movie because, lets be honest, it wasn’t very good. To be fair, it was released before the Marvel-fever truly caught on, but still – much like Daredevil – people felt the studio did the characters, artists and writers a disservice. The Fantastic Four are Marvel’s longest-running superhero team and play a huge part in the overall Marvel Universe.

As with the modern X-Men movies, this film looks much darker. Gone is the cheesiness and the silly looking costumes; in comes the mighty graphics and the intensity that has surrounded the more recent Fox-Marvel films. Similar to X-Men this movie looks to tackle the ‘coming of age’ style plot line… how will the characters deal with their new powers, which way will they turn when facing almost certain death so young – these questions being asked the right way could ‘make’ the movie. They’ve certainly made the comic books. The strength of Fantastic Four is not so much in the weirdness of the characters, it is in the relationship between the characters. It is this relationship that means despite not having the same kinds of powers as the Avengers, for example, they can take on some incredibly dangerous foes such as Doctor Doom and come out on top. A ‘family’ of superheroes – who knew each other before becoming heroes – is a rare thing and if it’s done right it can make for an exploratory goldmine for the scriptwriters.

Here’s the official blurb that seems to suggest good things:

The movie centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

A second reason to hope this movie turns out well is that the studio has expressed interest in doing an X-Men / Fantastic Four crossover. Now, I loved the last few X-Men movies, but I do feel that they are soon going to need a little something extra if they are to reach the level of the Avengers and this could be it. The Fantastic Four and the X-Men teaming up could take on far greater enemies and result in some mammoth movies.

What do you guys think? Can this be a success or will it bomb as so many are suggesting and hinting?

  1. I don’t see why so many people are saying so many negative things about it. i like the apparent tone of the movie, hopefully it’s not just the trailer. My favorite thing about the trailer was the re-imaginings. cuz as far as I am concerned, if you’re gonna keep rebooting things that really need no rebooting (one more spider-man reboot and i’m boycotting the whole franchise), you might as well change it as much as possible so i’m not watching a slightly different rehash.?
