We got an e-mail yesterday saying that the proof versions of Brandon Sanderson’s second book in the Stormlight Archive, Words of Radiance, series have hit and we should soon be expecting one in the mail – obviously pretty damned exciting! Anyone who has read the first book will undoubtedly be dying to get their hands on this sequel and are likely begrudging Sanderson for making up wait almost three years for it, right?

Well, having now seen the book, I can understand why it took so long to write (especially when you consider how many other books Brandon wrote between the two novels in this series).

Here, I present you with a picture of the book next to Memory of Light:

Anddddd, here it is lined up to book 1, Way of Kings:

According to Tor (who produce the book in the USA; it’s Gollancz in the UK),  the book was ‘so big it actually required some serious finagling at the printer’. From what we’ve heard, the book had to be manipulated to meet the particular printers maximum amount of printable pages so that the book could maintain its bind (1088 pages). And here are those masses of pages:

So, another 400,000 word+ novel from Mr Sanderson… anyone else you’d be raising an eyebrow, but the way Sanderson writes you’re likely to finish it as quickly as you’d finish your average novella. We will, of course, be reviewing this title as soon as we get our desperate little hands on it.

Oh, and if you’re a Sanderson fan keep an eye on Fantasy-Faction this week as we’ve got some good news relating to this series to share with you shortly too 😉

  1. He has to make them this long so the title will still fit horizontally on the spine of the book.

Expect book 3 to be even longer, so “Unhallowed” fits on there. 🙂

  2. Sanderson is the only writer in fantasy I can imagine writing ten books without huge boring parts. I LOVE the Wheel of Time, but the middle books could just have been deleted.

  3. Well I take that back if the book is close to 450000 words then thats about 40000 words longer than storn of swords! Thats one long book!
