Science Fiction and Fantasy Author Jay Lake Has Passed Away

Jay Lake by Johan AAuthor Jay Lake passed away this morning surrounded by family and friends. He was diagnosed with colon cancer in April 2008 and went through multiple treatments to try and beat it, some of which were funded by the SFF community.

In his life he wrote multiple short stories and novels. He was a quarterly first place winner of Writers of the Future in 2003 and in 2004 he won the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer in Science Fiction for his story “Into the Gardens of Sweet Night”. His most recent book, Kalimpura, third in the Green Universe series, was released by Tor in January 2013.

The world is a poorer place for his passing and we at Fantasy-Faction send our condolences to his family, friends, and fans. Rest in peace Mr. Lake.
