Terry Brooks talks about The High Druid’s Blade

The-High-Druids-BladeHaving just finished The High Druid’s Blade by Terry Brooks I can confirm that it is a very good read. I’ve only read four of Brooks’s previous books and despite this latest offering obviously being connected and linked into the events of the others, I felt Brooks did a very good job of giving the reader enough backstory to understand what was going on without ever making it feel that you’d been hit with an info dump. So, basically, if you’ve not read Shannara books before: this could be a very good place to begin.

As much as I like the book, I like Terry Brooks. Every time I hear him talk via video/podcast or read an interview of his I am left thinking something along the lines of: “man, he’s a really nice guy” and I think this comes across in his books too. Whether you are 13, 30 or much, much older this is a book that you can enjoy – there isn’t any real ‘nastiness’ in any of his work that I’ve come across. Of course there is evil and bad guys, but there isn’t brutal descriptions or moments that will keep you awake at night.

The latest “Man, he’s a really nice guy” moment came a few days ago when the very excellent and loyal Terry Brooks fan, Shawn Speakman, posted up a video recording of one of Brooks’s visits to a local university bookstore. The video includes Terry talking a bit about his book and answering questions from the audience. Check it out below and don’t forget to check back next week for our review of The High Druid’s Blade.
